Democracy is burning, and we need sites like Bluesky more than ever. And Senator Durbin wants to repeal 230, which would massively stifle the ability of sites like Bluesky to exist, while massively empowering X and Meta. Why? It seems that someone in his office doesn't understand 230.

More proof to show that the core arguments Republicans presented in Biden v. Murthy was pure partisan bullshit from Republicans to go after and damage Biden. Especially with a Trump appointed lower court judge deciding that Biden violated the 1A on the 4th of July when the courts aren't even open.

Section 230 (c)(1) shields you the same way it shields Facebook and Twitter every single time you repost on Bluesky, Twitter, Facebook, and forward emails you never typed. Claiming it is only a shield for the rich is a blatant lie.

Welcome to Bluesky, Dean. Another ICS that is equally shielded by Section 230 like X and Facebook. I appreciate your determination to destroy the internet/Section 230 to silence you, and millions of others as long as you can see Musk and Zuck sued for third party user posts.

Algos are protected by the First Amendment and hate speech is protected free speech (Brandenburg v. Ohio) You can criticize Zuck for how he runs Facebook but Section 230 shields an ICS like Meta if someone is trying to hold them accountable for NOT moderating hateful content.

I don't like Musk but the Terms of Service on X clearly say that X owns all handles that are created by third party users and they reserve the right to claim them whenever they want. It's why it wasn't illegal when they claimed the @ X handle from someone when the name changed from Twitter to X.

I get the pushback to Bluesky in that it further bifurcates our media ecosystem. But at this point, Twitter’s content moderation is so nonexistent and its verified users so extreme that the choice becomes either move away from Twitter or be subjected to straight up 4chan nazi bile on a daily basis.

I voted against Trump 3 times, and strongly believe he is unfit for office. However, algos are protected by the 1A. Musk is free to use that hellscape to promote Trump & his right wing buddies. The answer to combat Musk is to come to Bluesky and take $ away from him, not ask for gov intervention.

Section 230 protects acting as a publisher and the first amendment protects editorial control. I don't really care who's in Trump's cabinet. They can all lose to the First Amendment like Trump did when he lost his Twitter account in 2021.
