On Housing, Power, and the Intellectual Joys of Publishing
Serde AtalayFaculty of Law, Lund University ‘Housing and Social Control: Reassessing the Protection Asymmetries of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights’, published in Social & Legal Studies about a year ago, is my first international peer-reviewed research article. As such, it holds not only a special place in my academic portfolio, but also in my intellectual growth as a researcher.

New from @pamherd.bsky.social and I: Trump has added work requirements to Medicaid, expanded them in SNAP. Now he is going after public housing. You can do something about it: take 5 mins to write a public comment opposing this change. Instructions enclosed.🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-trump-...

"I love it. But I don’t quite understand it and what Le Guin was doing with it and how it works. It’s full of very specific time and place that feels absolutely real, as if I read a book set in the 1820s and I could go there now..." —Jo Walton on Malafrena reactormag.com/jo-waltons-r...
A copy of the Library of America edition of The Complete Orsinia, containing Malafrena and Stories and Songs. The cover has a black and white photo of Ursula in the upper right corner, and "Le Guin" in a lush serif font above LOA's usual red-white-and-blue stripe

It is *fascinating* to me how quickly some people have gone completely from “we all must work in the office! human collaboration is vital and only happens in person!” to “I can replace all these pesky people with chatbots!” Definitely some commentary there about our society and who gets to choose.

Delaying decent home standards for private renters until 2035 means denying them the most basic standards. It will leave millions of people, including families with children, trapped in poor-quality housing with nowhere to turn. We need decent homes now. Read more: shltr.org.uk/wfQ8X

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same

A very colorful Swedish edition of The Dispossessed, circa 1976. Cover art by Per Åhlin.
In this translation, The Dispossessed is called SHEVEK. The cover shows a man in a green long-sleeved top with a sort of sash printed with a landscape of trees and a river. He is holding up four fingers in front of a globe. In the foreground is a woman with dark hair and a black top, who looks off to the side.
