pondering: i want a book like ride or die (amazon prime series) but for teens, but the crux of ride or die is that they've been friends for 20+ years and u just cannot replicate that kind of time and attachment and depth of connection + the political intrigue with teens... (or can u??)

as an aside, all those emails referenced my portfolio of work, but the only works my name is attached to as an agent that are currently known publicly (through pm, lbr) are picture books. so why are you querying me on behalf of someone else a book that is not a picture book??

lit agent tasneem motala @seraphecda.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

so this week i got an email from someone who is "a representative" for an author to help this author find an agent. do we need to go over what is and isn't a publishing scam again? bc this reads MAJORLY scammy

freelance work would be a whole lot easier if clients materialized out of thin air instead of me posting about it constantly and getting Nothing (i havent promoted in a while but i am dreading returning to this and might not bother tbh bc it has been as useless as job applications)

recently I gave a client of mine some feedback that I felt was important SOLELY because what Ernie is talking about here is so common to hear in response to anything written by POC. and it's insane that I felt I had to do this because for some reason people can step into an orc or a drow just fine.

idk guys when i see a lot of similar headlines insisting that editors & authors are all already embracing AI, i don't assume these things are true. i assume there are a lot of very rich people with an unpopular product pushing a particular narrative in my industry!

thebookseller ig account saying NEWS: some editors uploading confidential manuscripts to ChatGPT to read quickly, agent claims

the guardian: I wrote a novel using AI. Writers must accept artificial intelligence – but we are as valuable as ever | Stephen Marche

the walrus bsky account: Authors are using AI. Publishers know it. And now, says publishing consultant Thad McIlroy, authors are being forced to lie about it. One cancelled horror novel didn’t just end a career—it exposed an industry-wide reckoning.

It’s not even April and yet we’re having our 3rd layoffs and restructuring from a Big 5. Six colleagues including editors who acquired books by BIPOC and queer creators have been let go. When is it going to stop? And how can publishers be so short-sighted?
