![The Eternal Void, But With Jazz S1E19: "Freeing Our Voices" with Bella Payne
Quote by Bella Payne: "And there are many ways you can stimulate the vagus nerve. Deep breathing is one of them, which we have to do when we're working on singing. We have to manage our breath support. And singing is one of the best ways to stimulate [the vagus nerve.] Also massage. That's why we start with face massage. It's one of the reasons; there are other reasons why we do that in voice lessons, but the original reason why I started face massage was to stimulate my vagus nerve because I was running on such a high energy of fear and stress. And so, I just wanted some relief, and every book on somatic therapies talks about the vagus nerve. It's a very important concept to understand. It's very simple, too. And so, every time you trigger it, you're relaxing your nervous system and you're sending that relaxation response to all of your vital organs at the same time."](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:tutthc5jamwhd3m67clee3se/bafkreicyzozillrsyjfyvrh26tvrdpybxwiunmkt3nkhx6tiy4ls4ib2ya)
