Today I received a book on loan from the Cleveland Public Library (hell yeah) and what I expected was the McNALLY EDITIONS reprint of the 1919 classic EX-WIFE by Ursula Parrott. What I got was the... 1989 reprint.

I feel, perhaps for the first time, profoundly altered by a book, like my mind has been squeezed into a new, more effective shape. If you haven't read Clarice Lispector's AN APPRENTICESHIP OR THE BOOK OF PLEASURES, I highly recommend it.

Stylistically and chronologically, they're very close. You can see the similarities just by looking at the pages. I haven't read MANSECT, so perhaps Ryan Holmberg talks about it in his usual essay, but that's a connection worth talking about.
