🎈 Happy to announce that I was awarded the ERC StG for my project CHASM-Meta which will aim to close the chasm (👀) between our understanding of neurocognitive and clinical metacognition, and its role in mental health. Lots to look forward to in this space 🚀

We @saschafrolich.bsky.social @stefankiebel.bsky.social investigated how habitual- and goal-directed control interact when actions must be made under time pressure. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Context-dependent interaction between goal-directed and habitual control under time pressure - Communications Psychology
This study investigates the dynamic interplay between habitual and goal-directed control. Using RL and drift-diffusion modelling, we show that these systems interact in a context-dependent manner: hab...

We outline opportunities and challenges for this integration with the framework, and hope that this synthesis will open more conversations and collaborations across disciplines toward our shared goal in mental health. (3/3)

“Metacognition” has become increasingly important to advance mental health understanding and treatment, but integration between fields has been difficult with different methods and conceptualizations. We propose bridging these perspectives under a unified hierarchical framework. (2/3)

We @smfleming.bsky.social, Marion Rouault and @seowxft.bsky.social and I) have posted a reply osf.io/preprints/ps... to a preprint that recently raised concerns about the validity of associations between mental health and metacognition from online studies. I hope you can take the time to read it.

#OCD is a understudied disorder, meaning that we know way too little about the underlying (brain) processes. We have thus built the Brain Explorer app www.brainexplorer.net where everyone can easily contribute to understanding OCD. #MentalHealthAwareness @tueneurocampus.bsky.social @ucl.ac.uk

Brain Explorer - Test your brain power
The brain explorer app for Apple and Android tests your brain functions and helps researchers to understand the brain. Explore your brain power and how brain functions are important for mental health.

It's #MentalHealthAwareness week - time for facts: OCD is not about being tidy. It’s a serious mental health condition rooted in brain processes — and we’re studying it. Learn more on OCD & the Brain: ocdandthebrain.com @ocdaction.bsky.social @tueneurocampus.bsky.social @uclbrainscience.bsky.social

Lastly, we see that confidence alterations predict anxiety-depression symptoms very well, but compulsivity likely has other influences beyond confidence (which is important!). There is much more to unravel with this complex construct :) (4/4)

We also saw heterogeneous confidence patterns across the local to global metacognitive hierarchy in compulsivity versus a lowered confidence effect in anxiety-depression at all levels - again, irrespective of cognitive domain. (3/4)

We find that (local) overconfidence was linked to compulsivity regardless of whether it was about memory or perception… is the transdiagnostic approach revealing overshadowing effects of underconfidence in anxiety-depression in memory as well? (2/4)

Paper out in PLOS Mental Health 2 weeks ago 🙈 but better late than never! Collab with @smfleming.bsky.social and @tobiasuhauser.bsky.social. We investigated how confidence is altered in transdiagnostic compulsivity across memory and perception, as memory confidence is typically lowered in OCD. (1/4)
