📢 Out now in PLOS Comp Biol: **cpm** — a Python library for theory-driven modelling in computational psychiatry. No scikit-learn for mechanistic cognitive models — so we built one: RL, prospect-theory & metacognition, hierarchical Bayes, and as many more as you can code 🔗 doi.org/10.1371/jour...

Conference season continued this week with #PuG2026 in Heidelberg 🏰 Having entered the German academic system over one year ago, it was great to meet so many researchers from the field from all across Germany (and beyond!), and I love how welcoming everyone was.

We @saschafrolich.bsky.social @stefankiebel.bsky.social investigated how habitual- and goal-directed control interact when actions must be made under time pressure. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Context-dependent interaction between goal-directed and habitual control under time pressure - Communications Psychology
This study investigates the dynamic interplay between habitual and goal-directed control. Using RL and drift-diffusion modelling, we show that these systems interact in a context-dependent manner: hab...

The "publish or perish" culture must perish. Scientists need time to think. We just published our Slow Science Manifesto, where we argue that huge changes are needed in the way we fund, publish, and evaluate science. Read more and sign here: www.slow-science.com

Hitting the nail on its head with respect to always having to think about "the next step" as a postdoc, even after just having started a new job. We know it is part of the deal, and it is very hard to change this system, but it is important to keep discussing this. advalvas.vu.nl/en/science-e...

Postdocs carry out a substantial share of academic work, but the conditions under which they do so are stressful. As a result, more than forty percent suffer from mental health problems, research show...

Happy #WomenInScience day - I've had the privilege of working with many brilliant women during my career, and am always acutely aware that they often have to work harder, be smarter, and do better to be taken equally seriously. Hopefully, we can keep doing better moving forward.

New paper out! In this work, published in the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, we investigated the role of impatient intertemporal choice across mental health in a community sample (N = 899) using a novel transdiagnostic research approach. doi.org/10.1002/bdm.... (1/6)
