I was signing papers at a local bank a few days ago and whipped out my tribal id. A fellow board member commented, “That’s a fancy driver’s license.” I said I would rather identify as a tribal citizen than American. I am so ashamed of the US government.

It was a food security grant for Sitka Tribe to buy local food from tribal citizens and distribute. Since the only locally available food is seafood, STA listed king crab and king salmon in their grant. Neither have been in purchased and the most common seafood given out is rockfish and black cod.
