I had a wonderful time bringing Bronx-based faith leaders to Washington, D.C. We toured the United States Capitol and attended the annual faith breakfast hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

I delivered $500,000 for the Webster PAL, one of the most vital community centers in the South Bronx. Youth investment is one of the most effective forms of public safety—keeping our young people engaged, off the streets, and away from the entanglements of gangs and gun violence.

Thank you to Governor Hochul for delivering nearly $10 million for a cath lab at Lincoln Hospital. Without a cath lab, Bronx patients experiencing a major heart attack would have to be transferred to Manhattan. I fought for the funding. Governor Hochul delivered for the people of the Bronx.

Congressman George Latimer and I conducted an oversight inspection of the Delaney Detention Center. The overwhelming majority of the detainees held there have no criminal history. None. The Trump administration is squandering $1 billion on a detention facility that should not even exist.

Having Russell Vought as CFPB Director is like having a pope who doesn’t believe in Catholicism. If you don’t believe in consumer protection, why lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?

Russell Vought is wrong. 187 years before Project 2025, the Supreme Court emphatically rejected Russell Vought’s theory that a president has the constitutional authority to suspend spending laws enacted by Congress.

Russell Vought has repeatedly asserted that Donald Trump has the power to suspend spending laws enacted by Congress. I asked Mr. Vought whether, under his theory, the President could unilaterally defund the DOD, the Supreme Court, Social Security, and Medicare. He refused to answer.

The notion of an authoritarian President accepting a $400 million gift from a foreign monarch would have been utterly horrifying to the founding fathers, who sought to protect the presidency from corrupting foreign influence.

I stood with SEIU 1199 and BX leaders to oppose the termination of TPS. Donald Trump accused Haitian immigrants of “poisoning the blood of our country.” Yet the Supreme Court insists there’s no evidence of racial animus. Its decision legitimizes racial discrimination against Black immigrants.

I had the honor of celebrating the installation of community solar panels across a portfolio of more than 70 properties in the Bronx. These installations will reduce the electricity supply charges on ConEd bills by 20% for low-income families. Lower energy costs. Cleaner air. A greener Bronx.

There is no contradiction between July 4th and Juneteenth. All Americans should take pride in both. July 4th celebrates the founding promise of equality and liberty for all. Juneteenth celebrates the enforcement of our founding promise. Both are chapters in the ever-unfolding American Revolution.

Donald Trump ran for President promising to drain the swamp. Instead, he became the swamp. The acceptance of a $400 million Qatari Air Force One has revealed his presidency for what it is and has always been: a cesspool of corruption.

The greatest scandal is not that Donald Trump is failing to avoid the appearance of corruption. The greatest scandal is that he is not even trying. His acceptance of a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar—a “palace in the sky”—is the latest chapter in the unfolding story of a corrupt presidency.

I had the privilege of speaking to Bronx youth about the importance of civic engagement at the annual Bronx Community Action Team, organized by Phipps Neighborhoods. My own journey in civic engagement began at the age of 16. You’re never too young to make your presence felt in your community.

The far-right assault on the Voting Rights Act threatens the greatest rollback in Black congressional representation since the collapse of Reconstruction. Juneteenth is not only a celebration of Black freedom. It is a call to defend it.

I am proud to announce that we have secured $3 million for security lighting at Andrew Jackson Houses, a public housing development in the South Bronx. The project has not only been fully funded but also completed on time and on budget. Lighting is not a luxury. It is a necessity for public safety.

I am heartbroken over the passing of a civil rights hero: Clarence B. Jones, who served as counsel and close confidant to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a co-organizer of the March on Washington, and a co-writer of the immortal “I Have a Dream” speech. May his memory be a blessing.

In the South Bronx, about 40% of residents lack broadband access at home. That is why I partnered with the Mayor, HPD, and NYPL to secure $2 million in federal funding to bring free broadband to the Bronx. Our $2 million investment will save 2,000 Bronx families nearly $1.7 million per year.

After senselessly keeping DHS closed for 75 days for no reason at all, House Republicans have finally relented. The House just passed legislation reopening DHS without funding ICE or CBP. A hard-fought win by House Democrats under the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries.

A newly created anonymous account on Polymarket placed a $32,000 bet just 12 minutes before Donald Trump’s ceasefire announcement. When an anonymous trader makes a perfectly timed trade minutes before a market-moving presidential statement, it bears the hallmarks of insider trading.

“A whole civilization will die tonight.” Donald Trump is so dangerously unhinged that the 25th Amendment should be invoked, and America should rid itself of his psychotic presidency, which is descending into new depths of derangement.

I am proud to partner with the @MTA and @NYC_DOT in announcing $15 million for the replacement of Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs), a leading source of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in the South Bronx. Replacing 1000 TRUs is the equivalent of removing 330,000 daily truck trips.

No district has a greater stake in Medicaid than mine—about 70% of my constituents depend on it. Gutting health care to bankroll war and mass deportation is morally indefensible.

America is the wealthiest nation on earth. Yet 47 million Americans are struggling to put food on the table. In a nation as wealthy as ours, hunger is not an inevitability. It is a choice. Donald Trump has chosen to defund SNAP by $200 billion.

One could easily imagine Justice Neil Gorsuch writing the same concurrence if a Democrat were in the White House. Can the same be said of Justices Kavanaugh, Alito, and Thomas?
