it became somewhat abstract: i arp-poisoned the scanner and my phone running ScanSnap Home, tshark'ed a few sessions, exported the pcap into ekjson and… read the whole thing into duckdb 2.0-dev i was playing with. it's a fairly clean sql query to select b64 jpegs straight from the pcap 🤔🥲

who's got a ScanSnap iX1300 and is tired of being forced to use the vendor's bloatware for wifi scanning? i reverse-engineered its wifi protocol & vendor binaries into a single ~1300 loc python script. scans on button press, writes to disk, repeats. no deps, drivers, scanbuttond, sane or USB.

another wild thing i did: transpile typescript in the service worker, skip the bundly-donkydonk, i thought, because it's 2026, i thought. it worked very well from the start. i also started collecting and emitting all kinds of telemetry from built-in network traces and metrics for debugging.

very positive: building a voice transcription tool, early on, i moved the ~2G speech recognition model into a service worker, in order to have it survive page reloads and, of course, completely isolate it from the main thread. it wouldn't have been fun to develop the app with multi-second loads.

if i disconnect my way-too-high-res screen, the actual RTF is 30 and it took <2 minutes. like, it's faster than any native apps i used, it's fully streaming and the app renders at 60fps+ while rendering. plus ts bindings in a gc-language. much room to optimize :D

oof. i've recently subscribed to a large 6TB proton drive subscription, so my workflow is: on a server, yt-dlp syncs my Youtube Music likes to a proton drive folder. that's it. i have sub-folders for youtube, soundcloud and i'm planning to add folders w/ symlinks for playlists/djing :D
