got an external GPU working today on Quasar 8550 in MNT Reform Next, an Intel Arc A750. works very well. caveat: needs a little hardware mod on first revision MNT Reform Next mainboards, because apparently the SoC can only output a PCIe refclk, not receive one. so the clock synth on the […]

i quickly tested the slop rust clone of adobe photoshop for you, as expected it is mostly a potemkin village with many non-functional buttons and bizarre behavior. it is funny to me that these tools are finally being used against their proponents though, and i'm wondering if/when adobe will sue

i've changed the rules of the source.mnt.re IP blocking game. every new blocked IP entry will timeout after 3600 seconds, so if your IP was previously used by a crawler, or you accidentally used something crawler-like to access source.mnt.re, you should have access again after an hour. please […]

really enjoyed reading this pcba failure analysis blog post from "big mess o' wires". we've reworked so many boards over the last years... good to know one isn't alone, and also which components fail for others www.bigmessowires.com/2026/09/29/fl…

two important things achieved today: - 44x PCBA of classic MNT Reform mainboard 3.0 now in production (finally, it took more than a month to get one last chip to JLC) - Quasar PCB revision 3 finished and ordered. This is mainly to try bringing up the Q-8750 a second time before the NLnet […]

meh, at least 50% QA failure on the simplest PCB of all: the trackpad's physical button board. this is using 3x kailh ultra low profile smd switches. the PCBs were soldered in JLC's economical process, and a lot of switches have unsoldered pads below them. this can even be seen from the side […]

quick test of @armsom_jackson CM7s in MNT RCM4: a bunch of stuff works out the box with the preinstalled OS (strangely, orangepi branded), such as serial, USB and HDMI

linux console greets us on hdmi with orangepi branding :D

htop shows 8 cores and 4gb ram, even if this board is supposed to have 8gb. we'll see once the official mnt system image works here.
