My first idea was just to constrain the movement so you have to think a little how you move and what you can reach. I plan to start with a short rope that you can then upgrade in exchange for ore/money. Or what do you mean by "cutting it short"?

Fake window shadows using "Light Functions" (Gobos) in Unreal Engine 5.6. The light beams are simple translucent textures on a cone mesh with a scrolling dust texture. Good performance on low end hardware bc no volumetric fog and no shadow casting is used for this effect.
