There is a positive spin - the more a government asserts control, the more that control is countered by its citizens. There’s a certain punk rock feel to the self-contained local LLM and I wonder if we’re going to see a boom in that direction. I’m certainly going to dig into that more this week.

Now Anthropic is moving toward Face ID and government ID verification, which, for me, is very much a breaking point. Any individual sovereignty over our identities and our data that we’ve been left with feels like it will vanish. And this coming from what has been the ‘least evil’ of the companies.

Mythos / Fable already felt like an inflection point for AI - not all models are available for all people. A divide between those who have access to Mythos and those who have access to Sonnet - not just financially, but by Anthropic selectively choosing who is even allowed to use certain models.

I’m in full agreement with the ethics of Leave No Trace but on a hike with my little guy last week I just had this realization of how impossible it is when we are so fully entangled in the world around us. We are always leaving traces and always being traced upon. So anyway I wrote about it:

The supply / demand pricing and logistics happening on all of my neighbors lawns while the sell parking spots for the PGA championship should be studied. I’ve seen everything from $50/hour to $375 for the day PLUS they’ll drive you to the entrance gate.
