Wrote a little something on slop. Should we be worried specifically about AI slop or just slop generally?

I’m reading The Visible and the Invisible right now and I figured I’d be a little bit public with my reading notes! Here’s my notes from the first section: Reflection and Interrogation. Helpful? Interesting? Did I get anything wrong? I would love to know! #philosophy #phenomenology #merleauponty

Otto Bollnow calls wandering a “holiday activity.” A temporary release from the serious life of work. But what if wandering WAS the serious life of work?

Mythos / Fable already felt like an inflection point for AI - not all models are available for all people. A divide between those who have access to Mythos and those who have access to Sonnet - not just financially, but by Anthropic selectively choosing who is even allowed to use certain models.

The season finale of The Line! We've been talking through a socially constructed AI Ethics. Our last guest is one that has been on the top of our list: @tompantazes.bsky.social We talk efficiency vs extension, personal vs professional, and how AI is the great average - a flattener of experience.

An ongoing theme of this season has been weighing the gains and losses - cognitively, environmentally, pedagogically, ontologically - of AI. The conversations have reminded us of the importance of nuance and that we are still in the deciding phases of what this means for humanity.

What is it to learn? Not what learning produces, but the thing itself. What is actually happening when someone learns? This is the question I continue to chew on. It’s the center of my dissertation and, since my thinking continues to move, I thought I’d write an update to a post I shared in March.

It's taken like 5 solid years but I'm proud of our little backyard oasis - I just looked out back and saw goldfinches on each feeder and two bunnies chasing each other like some kind of Pixar nature movie.

For sure our most leaned-in guest yet joins us in Episode 9, out on Thursday. Kyle is a professor and an assistant principal in a district where every teacher has a paid ChatGPT account. Kyle will tell you, he doesn't really have an AI line... Listen to The Line Ep. 9 this Thursday! (link in bio)

I’m in full agreement with the ethics of Leave No Trace but on a hike with my little guy last week I just had this realization of how impossible it is when we are so fully entangled in the world around us. We are always leaving traces and always being traced upon. So anyway I wrote about it:

Episode 8 of The Line is live today where we sat down with Zach Juliano, the man who got me back on the ice after herniated discs kept me off my skates for a while. Zach's line is a firm one, AI doesn't have a body, how can it know physical therapy? Listen today at pexelab.org/the-line

Episode 8 of The Line comes out this Thursday and I'm excited to bring on Dr. Zach Juliano who is the #1 reason that I am back on the ice playing hockey again after I was sure I was done playing. If you've ever felt like you were just another number at the doctor's office, this episode is for you!

Trying to explain religion to my curious 5 year old. I told him it’s a group of people who share a belief system, he would like to know what religion he is because he believes in cryptids. Anyone know? Pictured is his current favorite book.

The supply / demand pricing and logistics happening on all of my neighbors lawns while the sell parking spots for the PGA championship should be studied. I’ve seen everything from $50/hour to $375 for the day PLUS they’ll drive you to the entrance gate.
