the more i think about it the stranger it is to me that the pokedex doesnt act as a way to catalogue game data like moves a species can learn, evolution methods and such like essentially the information theyd print into a guidebook just.. actually in game

friday thoughts: I think it's important that shiny hunters be vocal about and continue to recommend accessible hunting options like emulation and/or flashcarts for newer folks looking to get into the hobby but think they are unable to due to the high cost of games/equipment they see most ppl use

everyone’s gut reaction is going back to physical games but all digital feels like an inevitability even if it should be 10 years from now the real solution is better digital rights you shouldn’t have to check in online with a game you own, even if it’s on a hard drive rather than a CD

people smarter than me did some digging into this, neat stuff. apparently there's also a bug that causes scratch to have a 1% secondary effect chance

this seems to be the case
1. flag for the burn side effect from Ember doesn't get cleared within the same turn
2. scratch now has the burn side effect
3. another bug means that scratch's expected 0% `secondaryEffectChance` actually has a 1% chance to trigger

Ohhh so there's a corollary bug also
That would also explain why it seems to be so rare (seemingly undocumented, even)
I suppose that means the effect chance could also increase if a move with an effect chance that is normally higher were chosen?

it would be more obvious with two moves that both have secondary effects
Ember disobeyed into Bite would have a 30% chance to burn
