Who is advising students to automate these messages? Why the mass delusion that professors want to read these? What makes me saddest is the erosion of trust. Even the students who take the time to write will now meet readers who are skeptical they wrote the words themselves. Everyone loses.

I find it very strange how often the Soviet Union is described as a "federation" in academic literature. It was a pseudo-federation; power was concentrated in Moscow. Why do so many scholars adopt Soviet self-descriptions as analytical categories? A dictatorship is hardly a federation.
