It's The Weekend 😌 @craigweekend.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

Ladies and gentlemen... the weekend. (also: you are important and are not alone 🧡)

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

As someone who's about the same age as Ossoff, I'd also say that not having warm memories of the Reagan administration might be part of it, too. There's no nostalgia clouding the perception of Republicans, just seeing who they are and have been since the 1990s.

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

I think it helps that Ossoff doesn't have the same warm nostalgic memories of Democrats and Republicans being nice and friendly to each other. He's only a few months older than me, so one of his earliest political experiences was likely the Clinton impeachment, which was ugly and stupid.

Yes, I know. I live in Georgia, so I've seen how filling vacant Senate seats works. Hence my concern.

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Honestly, I'm kinda jealous. No way you could get away with having characters with names like "Buzz Windrip" and "Doremus Jessop" these days.

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

See, now I kinda want everything connected to Legends to be defiled in some way. Like, I need for Thrawn in whatever new show he's in to go full Cobra Commander, instead of being a brilliant military tactician. Because he shared continuity with "Mofference."

120

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

See, I read "Mofference," and thought, "that's a joke." It was not. The joke was on me. And now I'm kinda glad about the old EU / Legends stuff being de-canonized. Because "Mofference" and "Moffship" cannot be allowed to be canon.

140

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

I'm sorry, "the Mofference?" [One visit to Wookiepedia later] ... okay, I'm gonna need whoever came up with that term to get hurt. Like, a lot. Not "dying" hurt, or even "hospitalized" hurt. Like, I need them to stub their toe, and when it's almost healed, stub it again. For like, a year.

150

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

I'm not opposed to Ossoff running, but I do feel that decision is very dependent on who's in the governor's mansion. Because it'd *really* suck to risk a Senate seat two years in.

1120

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Wait, why is Palpatine the low bar? I'm genuinely curious.

120

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

One thing Trump did appear to learn from his first term: go for loyalty over ability. He's surrounded himself with people who will happily do whatever he says, but most of them are bad at their jobs. During his first term, he had people who were good at their jobs, but didn't always do what he said.

040

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

That's the thing, though. Fascism (or any authoritarian system) if kinda fundamentally anti-competence. You're only allowed to be so good at your job before you become a threat to your boss's position. And with the incompetent orange pustule that is Trump at the top, the bar is very, very low.

140

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

I appreciate the Ossoff is actually willing to say this shit, because it feels like Democratic leadership still thinks they need to treat Republicans with kid gloves. Now, if we could work on a few of Ossoff's policy positions, that'd be all set.

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

Also, if Iran *wanted* to attack an American city, there are much closer, much more vital targets than any city in California. Like Washington D.C.

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

Okay, here's the thing: Yes, trying to bribe someone in order to try and change their vote is a crime. So is accepting the bribe. He's literally making all of these people accomplices in his crime.

Honestly, the number of Republican graduates from Ivy League schools who just say the *stupidest* things in front of cameras has probably done so much to damage the reputation of those schools.

Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

... isn't there literally a law about this? I mean, I know that wouldn't alter this administration's actions one iota, but shouldn't candidates at least *pretend* to care about that kind of thing?

It's the Jordan Peterson defense. "You have to have watched / listened to / read *every word* the man ever said or wrote, otherwise you're taking him out of context and don't know what you're talking about."

That is some real big talk coming from a guy getting taxpayer-funded healthcare, and who will likely continue to receive taxpayer-funded healthcare for the rest of his life. Tell me, Mikey, why do *you* deserve to benefit from services you wouldn't qualify for under different circumstances?

LibrarianWriterGeek @sctadsen.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Yeah, it really helps to remember that conservative men don't actually *want* conservative women. They don't *want* someone who will happily slip into the role of trad-wife. What they want is some they can "fix" (read: break). They want a former blue-haired leftist turned trad-wife.

I've believed for a while that the vast majority of people are utterly ambivalent about trans rights. They don't care one way or the other, because it's not a factor in their daily lives. They have no opinion one way or the other. Really wish politicians would wrap their heads around that.

If this current election cycle has taught me anything, it's that you should *never* put anyone - especially politicians - on a pedestal. They'll only end up disappointing you.

I honestly don't know which of the rationalist / EA AI factions is worse - these guys, or the ones convinced that Super AI will fix *everything*, and thus any money and resources *not* devoted to bringing about the Super AI is a waste.

Honestly, I think more people need to point out how it's actually kinda weird that certain people have formed very strong opinions on this issue, when it quite literally has no effect on their life.
