We, as humans, have the annoying tendency towards judging a species by their looks, and it would be far too typical for us to fall into this trap with the Giobhioni. With their diminutive size, green skin, large pointed ears and frighteningly pointed teeth, they have reminded more than one person of the goblins from popular fiction. It would be an incredible mistake to fall into the trap of thinking of them this way, a mistake that could lead to the misfortune of the individual, and the loss of a potent ally to the Commonwealth.

When the inquiry into what had befallen Bertha’s Bones on its final contract began, I took no joy at the idea that I might have to revoke Mr. Aacen’s certifications. He was one of the guild’s brightest minds, and even at that stage, had made quite a name for himself. And given his relationship with Boudya Mend’nasa, an equally promising member of the guild, such an action was likely to cause a fair amount of backlash.
