Just a fuzzy little flannel moth caterpillar making its way about the neighborhood. Also known as an asp, this is the most venomous caterpillar in North America. But boy, are they cute.

Coastal redwoods are simply magical. This one is in the Mariposa grove at Yosemite, a place that played a significant role in the establishment of national parks in the United States.

I had a great time in Portland! I gave a talk for the Rose City Astronomers at @omsiedu.bsky.social, got lost in @powells.bsky.social, browsed a cool vintage shop, tried some local coffee and whisky— all in less than 24 hrs. I definitely need to stay longer next time!

The annual salmon run in Alaska is an incredible spectacle! These fish return from the sea to the stream where they were born to spawn. Their bodies are physically breaking down as they stop easting and channel all their remaining energy into fighting the current to get to their final destination.
