This is the saddest comment I've seen in a while. Couldn't reply where I saw it so I'm bringing it here. Simply put, the point of originality is to have the risk that nobody will want or care about the thing you do. It's going to happen. You have to embrace the possibility of failure.

I honestly think these companies need to be obliterated from orbit. Online gambling has been legal here for just over a month and it’s the majority of ads I see. I’m really scared for how it will interact with Alberta’s culture of telling young men to get into the trades early to make big money

Looking at the list of songs that have spent 15+ weeks at #1, exactly one accomplished this before 2016 ("One Sweet Day.") I feel like there's some kind of deadball-era split going on. So few things capture the public attention at all anymore that anything that does has unlimited staying power.

Melissa Barrera called the support for Macklemore after he was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour “beautiful,” while noting that she received nothing comparable after being fired from Scream over her own comments about Palestine.

“It made me emotional. You know, I didn’t get that when it happened to me. I didn’t have any of that happen. It was too soon. People were too scared. But it’s good to see that almost three years later, at least things have changed.”

Barrera was fired by Scream producer Spyglass in 2023 after criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza. Her castmates largely remained silent, although Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon later departed Scream 7. Matthew Lillard only recently admitted that he felt “ashamed” for returning to the franchise without her.

Barrera wondered what might have happened if Sheeran had refused to remove Macklemore and forced the venues to follow through on their threats. She believes another venue could have been found and the public would have rallied behind them.

“I wish that the people that have power understood the power that they have.”

It is encouraging that artists appear increasingly willing to stand beside someone being punished for political speech. It is also difficult to miss Barrera standing there as proof that the entertainment industry discovered courage shortly after it would have helped her.
