Washington asked Ukraine not to launch air strikes around Moscow, St Petersburg and other parts of Russia during a visit by US CIA director John Ratcliffe, a source has told Reuters.

Ratcliffe made an unannounced visit to Moscow yesterday for talks, our US partner NBC News reported.

It was his first trip to the Russian capital since he began his tenure as CIA chief.

Neither Washington or Moscow have confirmed the purpose of the visit nor who Ratcliffe had been due to meet.
