I found it fascinating to look at the recent X-Men comics Byrne has been writing and drawing. All the dialogue and captions are purely expository. At no point does he give the characters any inner voices, and explore their desires, doubts and fears the way Claremont constantly did.

Been rewatching Soap, a show I loved as a kid. It really stands up; consistently funny and sharp as a tack. Burt's mental health decline up until now has been a source of comedy (he thinks he can turn invisible) but in the 20th episode it suddenly becomes heartbreaking.

Apparently there's some unwritten law that once you've been a regular writer on Amazing Spider-Man you can never return to the title again, so when Gerry Conway wanted to write more Spidey, he became Marvel's Editor in Chief and created a new title. (Has anyone ever come back to Amazing Spid?)

I'd be very happy if Jed Mercurio ended up making Doctor Who. He's a smart guy with two colossal hits (Line of Duty and Bodyguard) and a string of other intelligent TV shows under his belt. I really liked Invasion: Earth with its Quatermassy vibes.
