Can’t stop hearing the lyrics “time keeps on slipping into future” in “Fly like an eagle” by the Steve Miller band. There’s simply not enough time to do all the things I want to do. I blink and it’s another week…month…year!

I'm looking forward to Bluesky's CTO @pfrazee.com's chat tomorrow in #PDX. Also see the first public demo of @nstar.social's privacy-centered social posting experience with close contacts that complements your interactions on the #ATProtocol. #PrivacyByDesign #LocalFirst #EndToEndEncryption

Private <---> Public convo is a spectrum involving levels of trust. Our private convo shapes our public convo & vise-versa. Doesn't have to be one at the sacrifice of the other. Architectures & apps that embrace #PrivacyByDesign & #PrivacyByDefault can help us evolve our convo across the spectrum.

Glad Apple's addressing privacy infringement abuses in this AI era. Most don't understand the implications of giving apps or devices such access. Shame on companies exploiting users. We must demand better. Our devices. Our data. Hands Off! #PrivacyByDefault #StopTheTheft apple.news/AMiHmsB6mTY6...

These companies are out of control. It’s time we rein them in and hold them accountable. Our hardware. Our data. Hands off. We should be able to install and configure them to prevent this #invasionOfPrivacy. Let’s start calling it what this is: #aiTheft #corporateGreed #privacyNOW

Due massive identity theft by AI crime rings, governments around the world abandon antiquated national ids and assign every human a post-quantum signed did:plc identity restoring trust and order.

Heard about AT Protocol? Bluesky? Streamplace? Curious to learn more? Or, simply just want to meet like-minded folks (technical & non-technical) trying to make the Internet a better, safer place connecting people and communities? Consider joining us at October’s ATProto PDX meetup.

Agreed. However, there are a few open issues we were told would be resolved to make this a reality. Until then, people must include all nsids with aud=* or have opted for transition:generic. Also, until Bluesky clients embrace OAuth (and observe our issues), I don’t see much changing.

This is a HUGE reason why permission sets aren’t useful for decentralized Bsky appviews. We have multiple now. We don’t want to hard code audience in clients for every appview that comes about; therefore, the only solution is client metadata specifying every nsid with aud=*

Good job! I did the same for my children (now young adults). We’d be in a better place if parents (1) understood the dangers of social media, (2) explained the dangers to their children, & (3) held social media companies accountable. Misinformation, deception & manipulation were always a feature.

Thank you for sharing! Until this recent news, thought DO was going to be a reasonable alternative to the billionaire platform. What confidence do we have that UpCloud doesn’t or hasn’t gone to the darkside?

😔 Ugh. Is there no end in sight to this madness!?! It's becoming exceedingly difficult to avoid these companies. How do consumers shop with their wallets when companies keep betraying them?

“93% of time spent on Instagram is on content chosen editorially by Meta” People don’t understand how they’re being subtly manipulated by mega-corporations that span all national boundaries. Corporations nor a few people should ever have this kind of power. We must move quicker to decentralize!

In some ways, the rush to AI feels reminiscent of the early 2000’s when corporations disbanded engineering teams, except senior architects, in favor of “cheap” offshore resources. CapEx budgets ballooned, timelines increased & output/quality decreased. OpEx decreased (less employees).

In the Mu iOS beta app? I don't get prompted with the OAuth sign-in screen that specifies the access permissions (scopes) being requested.

When do you plan supporting OAuth sign-in?

😔 Sad but true. Most can’t be bothered unless they are directly affected or their “tribe/community” goes elsewhere. They can’t see the correlation between the utility of a tool they use “for free” & the consequences politically & economically. There’s hope in the decentralized movement for balance.

Seems non-Bluesky accounts don’t work. Hopefully that’s temporary since it specifies this as an AT Protocol service. Would be great if there were plans for searching AT Protocol accounts too…useful for account lookup typeaheads etc.

People are still talking about what to call the permissioned data protocol. It's not the Authenticated Transfer Protocol, it's the Authorized Transfer Protocol. We could call it the AT protocol, or atproto for short!

It’s the same reason your local independent businesses have always been down ranked or non-existent from the start in search results! Big tech has never cared about the small guy/gal. We are worse for it!!

Yep. It’s frustrating that “we” choose to stay on these closed mega-corporate platforms knowing that they are actively working against us and profiting immensely. It’s a difficult problem but urgently necessary to figure out. Each conversation plants the seed…

There two things that would provide users a better experience: 1. Show all valid sessions 2. Show history of apps ever granted access Users should be able to revoke sessions and know the apps that they’ll lose access and/or data by deactivating/deleting their account.

It depends on the CMS implementation. Spent most of my career as an architect building out global enterprise content management and continuous publishing systems that managed access & entitlement across the full content lifecycle. Never changed the data's ID to grant/change permissions or channels.
010
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 04/07/2026
Yeah…I think once it’s public, all the public features should be available on the original `at://` uri . Converting back to non-public would presumably be like a detachment.
010
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 04/07/2026
Interesting…in this case, the permission boundary is a space dedicated to the particular video and all its related assets. It certainly offers line-of-sight to whom can see what at any given point in time. 🤔
110
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 04/07/2026
Got it. In your example, can only the video be made public? Or, does the entire space and its contents need to be made public. If the former, then I consider this meeting immutability and independent of access lifecycle changes.
110
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 04/07/2026
Eli, I've spent my entire career building out large scale enterprise content management products and solutions dealing with access lifecycles transcending public and entitled data. You're spot on...the content identifier, the AT-URI, must be immutable and independent from permission context.
120
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 03/07/2026
Eli makes an excellent point that a content's access lifecycle can and will change over time (eg. permissioned-to-public and vise-versa). A unified AT-URI that transcends changes in permission is critical to maintaining linkage and references (likes, replies, etc).

No better time than a #bskyoutage to test your apps behavior 😀 ! Are there any alternative CDNs to provide failover?
020
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 03/07/2026
The PLC is an untapped resource that should provide the flexibility in the existing AT-URI scheme to define emerging capabilities. Granted, it needs some attention to lower the friction of adding services. But, that’s solvable.
010
Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 03/07/2026
Good points on both sides of this debate. Aren’t we already doing this to some extent with at:// and service proxying? What about adding support for “?service={serviceID}” to the AT-URI, then look up service in PLC. This could also address the one DID, one PDS limitation many are running into.

Scott Handley @scott.nstar.social · 03/07/2026
Solid points that make reasonable sense architecturally.
