I bet we're about a year away from a polished atproto (+ distributed ai powered appview) marketplace sparking a smb revolution and the fall of Amazon, eBay and Etsy. Hear Paul's Predictions at @pdx.atproto.camp next Tuesday 🎪

I'm so glad society has solved distributed systems architecture and invented atproto

Taking notes as I work on Project, found myself conflating implementation details into my spec drafts. I came up with this table of personas and how the relate to software writing, seems to be helping. Does this look like anything well-known? Any suggestions?

Do you like fast network replay? How does ~40 million events per second strike you? Replay the whole network in like 10 minutes In the best case scenario, running the jetstream server and the client on your own very powerful machine, this is roughly the peak I've achieved so far
a sample jetstream client that counts events, going at about 40 million per second

at its core, a relational db is essentially a 1) key/value store with software on top to facilitate 2) querying and 3) consistency among nodes atproto splits up these concerns and has them operate independently: 1. key/value storage -> pds 2. querying -> appview 3. consistency -> relays, firehose

People are still talking about what to call the permissioned data protocol. It's not the Authenticated Transfer Protocol, it's the Authorized Transfer Protocol. We could call it the AT protocol, or atproto for short!

No one owns the open social web. Everyone owns the open social web.
People, not Platforms

The endgame is not Mastodon, Bluesky, or Threads. The endgame is finding communities on the web and following them all on the best platform for you.

We don’t have to enclose ourselves in walls of our own making or force users to understand the nuances of every platform and protocol. It’s time to give people tools that empower them to make decisions that fit their needs. That is how we truly make the social web open.
