My partner is a MASSIVE Twin Peaks fan but also David Lynch in general so we ended up going to Washington for The Real Twin Peaks festival only weeks after he passed. The shrine people made at the RR Diner was beautiful.

Listen, those are my emotional support recipes in Facebook reels that I've saved and will probably never actually make.

Oh so what you're saying is that this is the perfect time for me to come and steal your jackets?

I need you all to be proud of me, my brain does not work in the ways of writing formulas, this was very difficult for me lol.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I figured out how to write an Excel formula to filter a table based on a vlookup result. I had the building blocks of it already (the data table and vlookup table) but had no idea how to do the filter formula. After 2 YouTube tutorials, multiple Google searches, and frustration, I figured it out!!

I had a subscription to them for a moment. They're pricey but they have nice undies.

It took me about a half hour to re-pot a handful of peppers, herbs, and tomatoes that I had been avoiding messing with since the spring. I probably killed half of them because I took so long to re-pot them. I got dirt everywhere, but it was easier than I thought. I've learned nothing from this.

Yeah, the previous time my boy plucked himself bald even the vet couldn't find any sign of fleas or mites or anything, but giving him Bravecto stopped him from doing it and his hair grew back. Didn't even treat any of the others with meds that time. Some cats have verrryy sensitive skin.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
One of my boys plucks himself bald even if only ONE flea is on him, so I get it! I just had to give everyone the drops because I spotted like 2 fleas on one cat and the plucker started tearing himself up despite the fact that I never found a single one on him.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The flea drops by far work the best because they kill fleas, larvae, and eggs while the pills usually just kill the adult fleas. But unless you order online and wait for 2-4 weeks you have to get the good flea drops from the vet, yeah. I use Revolution Plus but Advantage Multi is another one.

Now that this weekend is over and all of my planning over the past few weeks has concluded, I have 2 weeks to finish packing up my house and then moving! Not looking forward to it! Luckily I have maybe 2/3 of my house packed already though. I never fully unpacked a year ago.

I had a really great weekend being a vendor at the local Tower Grove Pride event in STL and my partner sat with me at the table the whole time and we got to just hang out and talk and see sooo many queer people and feel like we really fit in somewhere. Plus I made a lot of sales surprisingly!

Moving always feels the most weird when I have to empty my bookshelves and pack everything into totes and boxes. I need to buy a bigger bookcase once I get moved to my new place.
A large plastic tote filled with books, including some from Jeff Vandermeer, Mark Frost, and Philip Pullman.A smaller clear tote filled with books from Critical Role and one of the collections of The Umbrella Academy series.

Ah, from looking at the rest of them yeah, I think it's the gay men flag but the colors are misprinted. Ah well, I'm giving these away for free anyway. I just won't include these ones.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
What pride flag is this? It looks similar to the gay male one, but it has extra colors. It's dark green, green, light green, white, blue, purple, and black. Maybe a misprint? Google isn't even pulling up anything.

I bought pretty rocks today. They're acid-washed chalcopyrite and they're so prettyyyy. Not sure what I'm gonna make with them yet though!
Pictured is 3 small stones that are sparkly and look like a mix of blue, green, and purple.

They didn't test my iron levels but my MCHC levels are low, which points to my iron being low too. I'm chronically anemic, have been for years. X-ray results haven't been posted on MyChart yet but based on my 6.5 hour wait they're clearly not urgent. I just need to rest for a couple days. Goodnight.
000
Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
It's definitely related to the fact that I'm anemic and keep forgetting to take my iron, but also I spent like 2 hours with my heart pounding out of my chest and being overheated while lifting a bunch of really heavy stuff. Still, going to the ER was not worth it. I'll just die next time.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I went because I'm having chest pain and lightheadedness after pushing myself way too hard moving things in and out of a uhaul 2 days in a row (and only a few of those were MY things! I still have a whole house full to move next month!) I'm fine if I'm still but just walking around makes it hurt.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Lesson learned tonight: don't go to the WashU ER in St Louis unless you're literally dying. And even if you're literally dying probably still don't go there. I waited for 6.5 hours and ended up leaving having still not been seen besides triage, blood tests, and an X-ray.

Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
The amount of people that come into the ER with a full meal and sit and eat it absolutely blows my mind.

I had to email one of the offices that I do end of month reconciliations for and basically be like "politely wtf" because none of the amounts they've listed on their end of month paperwork for August match the amounts they've entered into our daily tracking excel file. It's not even difficult??

I'm moving in a month and the first load of bigger furniture and such is being moved over this weekend (into storage on the new property) and I haven't even started cleaning and getting things ready lol UGH.

Are their Christmas Hallmark-type movies but for queer people? I am a sucker for some holiday Hallmark movies, but I need more gay.

I got approved for the place I wanted to move to! As much as I didn't want to move again so quickly, I'm happy to hopefully have a more stable situation with this next place.

I'm missing something here because I don't recognize any of the people I found listed as audio drama actors, but I am also very bad at keeping track these days.

I have zero memory of setting it down, it's not in my pockets, and I can't find it anywhere. I've looked back on the porch and inside. I had to have sat it down somewhere but I have no memory of it at all and I can't find it. Even checked the fridge and nothing. Why does my brain not work.

I got home a bit ago, took a shower, and ordered some groceries through Doordash. The person delivered my stuff and sent me a message saying there's $5 on the doormat I probably dropped. I thanked them, then grabbed the $5 and my groceries. I put them away in the kitchen and realized the $5 is gone.

I swear I think I'm developing dementia. I can't remember anything at all anymore. For example, a friend gave me $5 this morning. I put it in my pocket, but by the time I left my house, went to breakfast, and got back to my partner's place, it had disappeared. Figured I dropped it, maybe at home.

Also the place is only 5 minutes south of where I currently live so I won't have to move too far away from my partner, which is something I've been stressing about. Sharing space is not something they're ready for and I respect that, but I moved here to be closer to them so that's important to me.

I have been so stressed about being able to afford rent at my current place because of all the changes with student loans because those were helping me stay on top of things, but that goes away next spring. So this falling in my lap may be a godsend despite being stressful to move again already.
100
Mel Hartman (he/they) @sckit.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Anyway, he has some other folks potentially interested in the place so it's not a set in stone thing yet, but it's looking promising. The guy is really nice and would be a great person to rent from and live next door to for sure. And I cannot complain about cheaper rent for sure.

The wildest thing however was finding out that he used to work at Twitter. He was in a tech related position for a good number of years there. My partner and I met on Twitter, so to randomly be introduced to someone who used to work there way out here in STL is crazy!

I met the owner who lives next door to the house and he's a cool, chill guy. He hosts shows in his basement and is a huge presence in the local community for all sorts of things. I went back today with my partner and turns out they had a lot of the same haunts in the local punk scene in the 90s!

I got unexpected news that my housing situation needed to change much sooner than I anticipated. There was a lot of stress involved, as I'm sure most could imagine. However, within a few days of getting that news, a new opportunity popped up that was cheaper, which I desperately needed.

Somehow a bat got into my walls?? And now I can't sleep in my bedroom because it's chirping so freaking loud. My cats are losing their minds trying to find it but I've searched all over where the sound is coming from and there's nothing. It's just the wall.

I walked into my kitchen and heard snorting from my cat Olivander (he has sinus issues) but I spun in circles trying to find him and couldn't. Then I looked up. This buttmunch is 15 pounds and managed to follow my much smaller cat's lead in jumping onto the counter, then fridge, then cabinet.
A large orange cat sits on top of a wooden upper kitchen cabinet, near the ceiling, and is staring down at the camera. He's making a funny snarl with his lips because he's missing some teeth.

I have a ton of interest in that kind of stuff but not enough money to even begin and definitely no skills at this point. But I'm eager to learn. And pooling funds to buy a fixer-upper is looking like the ONLY path to semi-stable housing at this point. Ugh.
