With little resources, the D writes better, more interesting boots-on-the-ground content than many local newspapers (but I'm biased, having worked there on the non-journalism side)

I’m at the @improvingpsych.org online conference at a session about #PsyArXiv moderation, which switched from a post-moderation system (DOI assigned before moderation) to a pre-moderation system in 2025 for reasons that should be apparent on this plot.

uh guys.... when did ChatGPT image generation get this good?
Illustrated infographic comparing the main panes of RStudio to parts of a steam train. A coal car on the left is labeled “Source Pane — The Coal,” explaining that code written in the source pane acts as fuel. The central steam engine is labeled “Console — The Engine,” representing where code is executed and computation happens. Dark smoke billowing from the smokestack is labeled “Environment Pane — The Exhaust,” symbolizing the objects, plots, and outputs created after running code. Handwritten annotations point to each section with phrases like “Write it here,” “Work happens here,” and “What comes out and lingers.” A bottom summary panel visually reinforces the workflow: code is written in the source pane, processed in the console, and results appear in the environment. The overall style is playful, educational, and vintage-inspired, with muted colors and a pastoral landscape background.

But not all directorates are getting grants out the door. SBE is still stuck at 2 (two) new grants and STEM Education isn't much further along.
STEM Edu shows 14 grants—usually between 200-350 by this time.SBE still shows 2 grants. Usually 200-300

This should be national news. The mere fact that a single data center anticipated to use 2x the total amount of electricity currently consumed by entire state of Utah can be built based on the yea/nay vote of three county commissioners is absolutely wild

As SCORE project contributor, I don't see the findings as especially negative for education; the reproducibility issues likely reflect reliance on internal data that’s hard to fully de-identify. You could also argue the opposite: where it matters—replication in new contexts—education leads.

Agreed! There are some of us in edu schools who teach causal inference methods and are doing our best with school environments that resist RCTs or even large scale data collection The highly influential b school researchers are really no better (I mean several of them have committed research fraud)

As a quant edu researcher, I’ll say it really depends where you look. Education research is arguably 10 different fields hiding in a trench coat, so the quality is highly variable. And arguably much of the quality is due to logistical constraints of capturing data in education contexts

I have a new paper. We look at ~all stats articles in political science post-2010 & show that 94% have abstracts that claim to reject a null. Only 2% present only null results. This is hard to explain unless the research process has a filter that only lets rejections through.
It must be very hard to publish null results
Publication practices in the social sciences act as a filter that favors statistically significant results over null findings. While the problem of selection on significance (SoS) is well-known in theory, it has been difficult to measure its scope empirically, and it has been challenging to determine how selection varies across contexts. In this article, we use large language models to extract granular and validated data on about 100,000 articles published in over 150 political science journals from 2010 to 2024. We show that fewer than 2% of articles that rely on statistical methods report null-only findings in their abstracts, while over 90% of papers highlight significant results. To put these findings in perspective, we develop and calibrate a simple model of publication bias. Across a range of plausible assumptions, we find that statistically significant results are estimated to be one to two orders of magnitude more likely to enter the published record than null results. Leveraging metadata extracted from individual articles, we show that the pattern of strong SoS holds across subfields, journals, methods, and time periods. However, a few factors such as pre-registration and randomized experiments correlate with greater acceptance of null results. We conclude by discussing implications for the field and the potential of our new dataset for investigating other questions about political science.

I’m not sure I agree that a “null“ isn’t generating new knowledge. A null 95% CI can all but rule out effects larger than a certain magnitude. This is useful information, particularly in applied fields like education
