I get that this can probably be built in userland but will not reuse @automerge.org research which is annoying. Also having a bespoke algorithm in your lexicon that apps will need to follow sounds like a bad time

@dholms.at was there a consideration of supporting automerge or any CRDT behavior in spaces or general atproto? So different apps/views could collaborate and sync with reduced conflict probability?

👉 btw, if you didn't know, @schlez.in is basically responsible for a very core part of the new nuxt error logs

one of the nicest interactions I had this year was @danielroe.dev telling me an internal document about error messages may affect Nuxt. Great butterfly effect 😇

I did get one for fnm and it was indeed a llm generated or at least felt like it. I didn’t reply so I don’t know the endgame

I wonder if there was a way to make all records @automerge.org docs without protocol incompatibility. That could have been a cool building block

I wanted to separate private data (which probably will get almost no traffic and will be easier to host) than a public PDS which gets into all this relays

The big thing was basically “open, distributed CloudKit/Dropbox”, based on automerge + a different service (not a proxy) by having a record at tld.whatever.repo (because there’s no method to add a service to the did)

Just found @raz.lol’s talk about personal data in the atproto conference. I had something similar in mind but I’m not sure if I should build it because maybe permissioned data is all I need.

I have some apps default to the W workspace (like Slack and the Vercel chrome profile), some to the P (Telegram and WhatsApp, personal Chrome profile). Super+Return toggles a terminal, and Super+Return maximizes the current pane

Thanks! One of the first tests internally (by @industrialempathy.com) was using ffmpeg. Codex was so excited it can use dockerfiles so it put the static files in a different container based on nginx 💀 Really happy we did that and keep iterating on such things

That’s exactly why I built fnm. Each tab was slow and I was very surprised to realize it was nvm. “Isn’t it just a symlink system?”

One thing many candidates overlook in system design interviews: designing entity id formats. For the first steps it is usually not super important but once the system gets complicated it solves so many problems. People think of big components and leave easier wins on the table.

What kind of apps are not on atproto and you’d like to pitch to people to build an atproto alternative?

I see it no different than “export const runtime = …” but tied to a function scope instead of a page or a module. That’s… more powerful. Really no other syntax works for this. But I’m happy to hear alternatives from the community

Schlez @schlez.in · 01/11/2025
I find it utterly disturbing that people don’t think we knew the potential backlash of using directives. If there was a better solution we would’ve chosen it. Heck, if someone has a better idea lmk and I’ll push for it now. We probably just didn’t explain it well enough upon releasing the library
130
Schlez @schlez.in · 01/11/2025
It is also a wildly different situation when talking about a library vs a framework. You dont want to compose these directives. You don’t want to minify or bundle. You want to be able to distribute source code with compiler pragmas attached to the scope! And it’s a valid & syntax in parsers!

Schlez @schlez.in · 02/10/2025
You have no idea what you’re talking about. It is maybe not immoral, but it is violent, yet it’s fine to say you’re fine with the consequences.
100
Schlez @schlez.in · 02/10/2025
I’d do the same but it’s still breaking and entering and should be coordinated with the police because they have the monopoly on violence Now I’m not sure if you don’t understand this or choose not to And in any case what about the hostages do you plan on freeing them too or they can go to hell?

I think the aid should be received. But what you’re saying is like saying “drinking water is not a violent action”, when the whole situation is “drinking water in someone else’s house” or in this case,
100
Schlez @schlez.in · 02/10/2025
Again, I believe the aid situation is fucked up. I think my government is shit. I believe we are under a crazy dictatorship these days. But there are two ways of confronting that: diplomatic and by force
