you can tell these sorts of guys run on intellectual ressentiment. somehow openai disempowering mathematicians empowers them. to do what? i don't know. they will wake up tomorrow and understand exactly as much math as they did today
mathematicians guildYeah. That line made me laugh. "Instead of powerful corporations teling you what to think you give US the power to tell you want to think'Does science belong to an association of scientists?"Mathematicians did not ask for this work to be done" lol.

per the guardian
Last year on the Fourth of July, a small group from Dallas-Fort Worth held a night-time noise demonstration, setting off fireworks outside the Prairieland Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility south of the cities, in solidarity with the detainees. A few protesters broke away and spray-painted graffiti on employees’ cars and a security post, slashed the tires on a government van, and broke a security camera. The facility’s guards ordered the protesters to disperse, and most of them did. When a police officer arrived at the scene, drawing his gun, an armed protester shot her rifle, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The officer survived.

After a three-week trial, a jury found eight of nine protesters guilty of “providing material support to terrorists”, among other crimes. For the Sotos, this “material support” included owning a “printing press” used to print anarchist zines and being part of a leftist book club, the federal government argued. The couple had already left the scene by the time guns were drawn. All eight of the defendants sentenced so far have received unusually harsh sentences – 30 to 100 years – essentially life in prison.

Security, Alito said, ramped up immediately. A month later, in June of 2022, the world would know why. In the middle of the night, as Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his family slept in their Maryland home, a would-be assassin approached their backyard with a bag containing a gun and rounds of ammunition, a knife and nail punch, duct tape, zip ties, a crowbar and other burglary tools, including special shoes to silence his footsteps.
He was intent on killing justices before the Court released its Dobbs decision. With its narrow 5-4 majority, it would only take one justice. He said on private messaging boards he aimed to kill at least three of the conservatives and, as prosecutors later put it, "single-handedly and irrevocably to alter an entire branch of the United States government."
At the last minute, the man spoke to his sister on his cell phone, and she managed to talk him out of it. He was arrested and later convicted for the attempted assassination of Kavanaugh

i tried running my posts by a comms team, but they told me my posts were bad and i shouldn't make them, so i don't do that anymore
demon core vidal:

i am again going to politely entreat on you to stop posting about any policy anything without running it past your comms team. as politely as possible, you are not actually capable of being appropriately objective, which you *should* be when talking about policy

aaron rodericks

Yes I've tried that and we then don't post anything. See nearly any post from the safety account as an example.
Users keep demanding policy explanations daily and then make up their own random stories when there's usually an objective and repeatable process on our end (since we train mods).

Giorgio Eramo runs a fresh pasta restaurant near St Peter's square - serving up cacio e pepe and other traditional pasta dishes.

"It's terrible. It's not cacio e pepe... What Good Food published, with butter and parmesan, is called 'pasta Alfredo'. It's another kind of pasta," he said.

On his restaurant's board of pastas, he offers cacio e pepe with lime - a variation. But he says that's ok.

"It's different, it's for the summer, to make the pasta more fresh. But it doesn't impact the tradition. It's not like cream or butter. Lime is just a small change."

Finally, we must look further than just our own small piece of heaven. Accelerating mathematics can bring tremendous good to the world if it speeds up applied fields, medicine, and other concrete benefits for society. At the same time, the disruptions and dangers extend far beyond academia: a professional driver losing their job is no less important than a professional mathematician whose work has become less enjoyable. We therefore have a duty to take our professional responsibility toward AI alignment seriously.

remembering this. of course guys who have tons of money and are constantly getting jerked off about how moral and ethical they are would want to not give up the money, and instead tell a moral and ethical story
cspan: Former President Obama says Democrats made a mistake by making goals materialistic and instrumental: "What people are starved for at the moment is the ability to tell a moral and ethical story about how we live together in this moment."

i looked this up and found out hilbert thought anything conforming to consistent axioms existed. what the hell man
The divergence between both
thinkers in this respect is plainly revealed in the
following paragraph from Hilbert:
You write: …‘From the truth of the axioms
it follows that they do not contradict one
another’, … I have been saying the exact
reverse: if the arbitrarily given axioms do
not contradict one another with all their
consequences, then they are true and the
things defined by the axioms exist. This is
for me the criterion of truth and existence”

checked scott aaronson's blog because i had a vague recollection he'd been working on this with openai, and indeed he had a blithe, even triumphant post about how great putting "watermarks" in text will be. within hours a commenter is already realizing this would be really good for spying on users
So yeah, Anthropic has announced that it’s now watermarking the outputs of Claude, using a scheme based on Google’s SynthID, which is in turn based on the Gumbel Softmax scheme that I proposed at OpenAI back in 2022—as far as I know, the first LLM watermarking proposal, though far from the last one. I’m gratified that Anthropic credits me for this, even though I shirked my duty by never publishing a paper about it (by the time I sat down to write one, it seemed like the whole field had already assimilated my scheme and moved beyond it—AI just moves too fast for me!).I wonder how often they will rotate secret keys? The detection algorithm could tell you not only whether it was written by Claude or not, but approximately when it was generated. Could they use secret keys for other purposes, too? For example, to try to detect which accounts are being used to resell their APls to China?

“Our AI content strategy has started a ‘doom loop’ that will hurt the performance of our models and the entire web at the same time,” an unredacted excerpt from a Microsoft document read.

“It is highly unusual that an end-product threatens the economic foundations of its essential suppliers, but that is the situation we have created for our LLM business with respect to its ‘content supply chain.’”

singular locus sarah @scgriffith.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
hmm
The best LLM solution was correct and better than the solution I provided in that it lowered the
computational complexity. Most importantly, it had an insight that was obvious in hindsight but that
I had not seen yet myself. Since LLMs are well known to surface existing solutions, I tried search
on “subsampled kronecker product matvec” and found that the main idea in the solution exists in
https://arxiv.org/pdf/1601.01507. (I am not sure if this is the only source of the solution,
but it is at least one such solution.)
The LLM solution did not meet the standards of including appropriate citations, but it was
otherwise a good solution

after hours of chatting, and emailing support, it just won't post the episode for unclear reasons, so we're switching podcast hosts, delaying the new episode on most platforms for days. just horrible. in revenge im burning their money on having the bot write essays while i watch YT
end of bot mesage: That's about 2,150 words. Happy to keep expanding, tighten it, or shift the emphasis — for instance, I could dig further into the media-ecosystem angle (Tucker Carlson–adjacent outlets, World News Daily, the Sam Harris comparison Helen draws) or spend more time on the race-science-in-Western-values thread with Roger Scruton.

Even assuming a trans girl is necessarily larger and stronger than cis girls, which isn't the case, it would only be unfair to other girls if she's not a girl_ Otherwise, she'd simply be a large, strong girl, and they already have those.
