The skunk one (published in 1997) is admittedly kinda out of date, since skunks are no longer considered part of the mustelid family. There was some unpleasantness. The skunks can't go back.

Use of the wrong rat in Medieval period dramas that take place before the Norway rat's displacement of the black rat across Europe. I mean, I get it. It's easier to source dark-coloured domesticated Norway rats than actual black rats. But it reinforces the assumption that they are the same species.

I should hate him and everything he stands for. But he's...weirdly adorable? I'm not sure I've ever felt so conflicted about a cartoon avian.

The cat's also a non-issue. The animatronic Maggie may be obvious as hell, but odds are that a CGI cat would have looked even faker (see the woodland critters in "Disclosure Day") and a real cat made up to look that moribund would have simply been unpleasant.

Whatever else there is to be said about "Digger", the closing punchline was frankly right up my alley. It's also the kind of punchline that you have to see theatrically in order to get the full benefit - which people obviously aren't doing, so that's a tragedy right there. Already lost to the ages.

Dear sir, The answer in Yesterday's Sunday Times to Brain Teaser 1111 was given as 8486. My answer which I sent to you by postcard was 6212 which I believe also to be correct since 6212 → 6 x 2 = 12 2126 → 2 x 6 = 12 I would be grateful for your confirmation.

Still the best meme.
Caption Reads "Humpty Dumpty Had A Great Fall"
Four panels show images of a cheerful little eggman going for a walk along a treefilled path as leaves fall from the trees, carving a jack o'lantern, picking apples from a tree, and settled in front of a warm fire reading a book while a cat naps at his feet.

The ending of New Batch implied there'd be further trouble down the line (of course Gizmo is going to get wet somehow or other, plus the female gremlin is still alive), but I was always happy to let that be a joke in itself. I have long been curious about the cancelled cartoon spin-off, however.

As much as I dug Final Destination Bloodlines, I'm expecting this to be safe in the way that Gremlins 2: The New Batch wasn't. Now that really was a once in a lifetime experience.

I'm still mad at Disney+ for removing "Doug's 1st Movie" in Europe. From there it was always going to be a steady slide to the bottom. (And yes, I'm a proponent of physical media, but Doug and his movie didn't get much of a life on that either. A taped television broadcast is all the media I have.)

Sep 1985: PCW 8256 ad from Amstrad «More than a wordprocessor, for less than a typewriter.»
This is an advertisement for the Amstrad PCW 8256 personal computer word processor. The PCW 8256 is a complete wordprocessing system and a complete personal computer. It has a high resolution screen, a high speed RAM disc, and an 82 key keyboard.

More than a wordprocessor, for less than a typewriter.

Don't look at the price of the Amstrad PCW 8256 or you won't believe
what is to follow.
Because the PCW 8256 is a complete wordprocessing system and a
complete personal computer at a completely unbelievable price.
It's a powerful wordprocessor.
The PCW 8256 is totally equipped for wordprocessing. It has a high
resolution screen with 90 columns and 32 lines of text. That's 40% more
usable display area than most PC's.
There's a high speed RAM disc that allows you to
store and retrieve information instantaneously, as you're
creating a document. The 82 key keyboard is specifically
designed for wordprocessing. Its special function keys
allow you to refer to "pull down" menus as you work,
so you don't have to memorise complicated codes.
This simply means it's easy to use.
And the PCW 8256 has an integrated printer, with
compatible software that gives you a choice of letter quality
and high speed drafting capabilities. Finally there's an automatic paper load
system, as well as tractor feed for continuous stationery.
All for the price of an electric typewriter.
It's a powerful computer.
The PCW 8256 is more than a wordprocessor. It's also a purpo
built computer with an enormous 256k memory. By employing the CP/M
Plus computer operating system, it can open the door to a choice of ov
eight thousand commercial software packages.
If that's not enough, for the real computer buff, a combination of the
powerful Mallard basic, Dr Logo and GSX Graphics system extensions will
mean you can write your own programs.
So even if you started off just wanting a wordprocessor it won't be long
before you'll be hooked on the compelling possibilities of
micro-computing.
Now you can look at...

[spoilers] My impression was that he was fleeing town at the end, since he'd figured out he wasn't wanted where he was. Wherever he ends up in the world, he's presumably in for a hard future, which I think was the point. The system put its own interests first and pushed him out.

I'd imagine she's living out a version of a fantasy that a lot of parents and teachers harbour! I didn't feel the movie was ultimately on her side, however (even if the community is) - I saw it more as a comment on the pains of being swept under the rug if you don't fit the system.

My own impression was that it was a Good Son-type story in which the "bad" child comes to feel like the most normal character by the end. I wouldn't say I found Maria sympathetic, although I did decide that there'd be no satisfaction in seeing the little snot Pauline bring her to justice.

Name a non-LotR character who could resist the One Ring. So long as the One Ring hasn't taken his gold house or his rocket car, it's not having much luck with Lampwick. NOT interested!
