We introduce PAVE (Purpose–Assumptions–Validity–Exploration) — led by @earth-andrew.bsky.social — a practical framework to help bridge the gap between modelers and everyone else. If you've ever looked at a model and thought, “this feels like a black box”… this is for you. doi.org/10.1093/bios...

The PAVE pathway: how to talk about models with people who built them, and people who didn’t
Abstract. Do you want your model findings to be used and have a place in academic or policy discourse? Then PAVE that place. For modelers, PAVE (Purpose, A

Why do so many models fail to influence decisions? Not because they’re wrong—but because they’re hard to talk about. Our new paper introduces PAVE (Purpose–Assumptions–Validity–Exploration) as a simple way to turn models from black boxes into shared conversations.

How to repair damaged ecosystems around the world? Researchers found that when restoring nature even ecosystems that look similar on the surface can respond very differently to the same fix: www.uni-goettingen.de/en/3240.html... #Ecography: nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

It shows intact Mediterranean-type oak savanna (Tonzi Ranch), a research site of the University of California, Berkeley, whose researchers contributed to the study. In @ecography.bsky.social doi.org/10.1002/ecog... we show, using the ModEST model, that one size doesn’t fit all when restoring Mediterranean-type ecosystems. Site-specific plant assemblages are key to maximizing ecosystem functions & trade-offs & synergies vary with soil & climate
