7 years ago today, I shared my name and pronouns with the world and said we didn’t need to have a big heart-to-heart about it. 7 years later, I’m still here. Still becoming. And I'm stoked to find what comes next.

Sav Rodgers, a tattooed white man with a ginger beard, dressed in a Trans Cinema 4ever hat, gray t-shirt, and red tartan flannel button up, with a Mass Effect necklace on. He stands inside a Hollywood Blvd. gift shop with a Walk of Fame star that says Sav.

Hi. I’ve been AWOL. Down 27lbs since July 1st and still going. Quietly healing and making new movies. Hope you’re well. 💖

The latest from USC Annenberg's new study, Inequality in 1,900 Films, addresses onscreen inequity for LGBTQ+ characters. "Not one transgender character appeared on screen in the top films of 2025." Any time you hear fascists whining about trans people in movies, remember that.

LGBTQ+ representation remained static overall from 2024, as less than 1% of all speaking characters in 2025 were part of this community. Not one transgender character appeared on screen in the top films of 2025. Since 2014, when this report began examining the representation of the LGBTQ+ community, the number of characters has fluctuated. In 2025, the 36 LGBTQ+ characters on screen reflect improvement from 2007 and a decline from 2022 when 87 LGBTQ+ characters appeared on screen. Seventy-eight movies did not feature any LGBTQ+ characters in 2025, a slight improvement from 2024 (82) and significantly better than 2014 (86).

Wrapped my third Tribeca Festival working on the Documentary Screening Committee. The best part is moderating Q&As with the filmmakers. Curious audiences, storytellers getting their moment in the sun, and the community—that’s what it’s all about. Happy 25th anniversary, Tribeca. ❤️
