Freedom of movement was mutual. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens had the freedom to live, work and study in the UK, just as British citizens did across Europe. We want those opportunities back — in both directions. Follow @savefom.bsky.social and support our work.

Any politician who doesn't think freedom of movement is worth fighting for ought to be given a job that involves crossing the Schengen border with a UK passport every day and see how it fucking feels. The ninety-first day would be particularly interesting.

That Brexit was an unmistakably wrong idea isn't at cause, freedom of movement protects you from the whims of anti-immigration policies. Sweden has agency, if they choose to revoke residence permits to people in those situations, it's the Swedish government that is to be criticised.

Unless these people have committed serious crimes (which would have been an acceptable reason to revoke their freedom of movement as stated in Art. 45.3 of TFEU) it's difficult to see the Swedish authorities doing this for reasons other than bringing the immigration numbers down.

Focusing the criticism on Brexit for the loss of freedom of movement for British citizens across the EU falls short of the full picture - Sweden has been following an anti-immigration path that leads to situations both absurd & tragic.

People should complain about the 90-in-180-day problem. As loudly as possible! 💥 📣 This is how we make the case for better people mobility. Without people getting enthusiastic about international mobility again, it will not be possible to rejoin the single Market or EU. It’s a vital part of it.
