It is #SundayMorning once again &, somewhat later than intended, here's our traditional start to the day: "Sunday Morning, Farringdon Road" by Cecil Osborne from the first Group show at Alex. Reid & Lefevre in 1929. It is in the collection at Brighton Museums. #CecilOsborne #EastLondonGroup

Good morning @theunhurriedreader.bsky.social but 24 hours later on my behalf: my apologies! We went out for most of yesterday & I didn't get back here again until this morning. Here's one which might be appropriate for #SundayMorning: this is "Church Row, Hampstead" by Elwin Hawthorne from c.1935.

The ads in the Texas-Oklahoma game have been (1) Ken Paxton's kids telling us they love their father, (2) some weird woman insisting James Talarico wants to jail parents who don't let their kids transition, and (3) James Talarico reminding voters that Ken Paxton committed a lot of crimes.

The fourth child of Augustus and Ida John, Edwin was born in Paris. After a brief career as a middleweight boxer he became a watercolourist. He inherited the estate of his aunt Gwen and did much to secure her posthumous reputation. This portrait by his father, is from 1927.

This painting was a result of Francis Cadell being turned down to join the British army in 1914. He worked on a farm in Dumfries, Scotland (depicted here) in an attempt to improve his fitness - he later passed the medical board's examination and joined the Royal Scot's Guards.

In the 'The Lustre Bowl,' (1908) William Nicholson plays with the shining contrast of the bowl against a dark black background. He would set up a still life and leave it untouched for days, absorbing every element. The flash of light lifts the picture out of the ordinary.
