I don't have kids, but if I did— tent camping in national parks nearby. The joy-per-dollar is ridiculously high. Meals on the camping BBQ, hiking in beautiful trails, cycling around the campground, campfire snacks... All for the low cost of "a tent and a NP pass". 1/2

Well, some numbers are starting to roll in, guys. Online Black Friday sales in the U.S. totaled $9.8B, and projections indicate sales will reach $10.8B, a 9.9% increase from 2023. What was that about eggs?

- for use by surgeons on Royal Navy ships. It’s thought the anchor as a naval symbol was first seen in the 1600s but it wasn’t until the Georgian-era in the 18th C that a huge effort was made to overhaul the (very poor) image of the Royal Navy. The anchor, & fouled anchor, were adopted as symbols 3/

For years I had no idea what this intriguing sherd was from but Richard discovered a reference to a MOLA excavation of a pottery on Mortlake High St, SW London, run by John Sanders & his son William from 1745-1787. The anchor indicates these ointment pots may have been purchased by the Admiralty 2/
Fragment from the base of a mid 18th century tin-glazed ointment pot showing a blue anchor, crudely drawn, on a white base. The sherd is from the Thames Foreshore. Similar example to my found 18th century tin glaze pottery sherd with anchor, discovered at excavations in Richmond & Mortlake, SW London.

On #FindsFriday grateful to the #mudlarkjng hivemind for the ID of this pottery sherd find from the Thames Foreshore a few years ago. Thank you to fellow Mudlark and pottery expert Richard Hemery for some great detective work. This blue on white anchor is a tin-glazed ointment pot from the 1700s 1/

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved. We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

You can still get a Spanish ferry from Portsmouth, but it’s so expensive that a lot of people would rather drive! Nothing at all from Plymouth…

I’m a fan of @brittany-ferries.co.uk but can anyone answer the Roscoff/Plymouth winter question? I’d heard that Millbay docks is being renovated and that was the reason for no crossings for about 5 months. Or is it another casualty of Brexit? Will the route be reinstated for Christmas 2025? 🤷🏻‍♂️

When Cleo met Antony… He was already married. Uh-oh!  His wife at the time was a ferocious woman named Fulvia, who actually started a war with Antony' rival, the future emperor Augustus 😮 Fulvia, an original bad-arse of history #CheekyFacts #AncientRome #AncientBluesky🏺
Etching by Bartolomeo Pinelli showing Fulvia piercing the tongue of Cicero's severed head. Dated to 1819. Fulvia’s expression suggests someone concentrating hard. Two men stand nearby watching her at this gruesome work looking equally serious.

these are good criticisms of bluesky, but they're somehow presented as insurmountable which I don't agree with - and also this argument is being presented as a reason to stay completely invested in X, which makes absolutely no sense to me at all (but it's coming from nonsensical ppl, so)
