A small turquoise parrot perching on a white cupboard door looks towards the camera. On top of her head, a single feather is out of place and sticking up in a way that looks a bit like a pigtail.

feels like there's a risk that if Labour keep having such a limp response to stuff like this, they lose support more permanently from their core liberal voters.

And from her windswept eyrie casts an eye 'Cross all the scattered kingdoms of the Earth; And should her gaze fall now on you or I- What raw accounting shall we offer of our worth?
The upper corner of a wall-mounted medicine cabinet, viewed from below, next to a large bathroom mirror. Everything in view - the cabinet, the wall, the ceiling - is bare white, except for a small grey and turquoise parrot who sits atop the cabinet staring down towards the camera, alongside her reflection.

Went to see that there Odyssey they have now and as soon as it started this tweet sprang into my mind for the first time in years.

Reader, I caved to temptation and preened her feather free while she was distracted kissing my phone. Getting feathers out of their little sheaths is *so satisfying*.
The same parrot as the previous picture, sitting on my hand. Her tail feathers are now free of their sheath, though a tiny bit ruffled

Milly is tormenting me by refusing to finish preening this new tail feather that's almost shed all of its covering (or letting me preen it for her, anything below the neck is strictly forbidden).
A small turquoise parrot sitting on my hand and facing away from the camera so her tail is prominently visible. One of the long tail feathers has a small section of whitish keratin sheath still around it, about a third of the way down its length

Woke up to sounds of beeping this morning. Came through to the living room to discover I hadn't fully covered Milly's cage with her blackout blanket, and she was sitting in this one little corner waiting for me to come say hello.
The bottom corner of a plastic cage, visible under a large grey blanket which covers the cage except for a small corner. In that corner, the face of a parrot is visible.

Here it is if anyone fancies trying it, I'd love to hear what you think!
A sudoku grid with various arrows and other clues on it. The title reads 'Red Letter Day's and below the grid reads:

21 / 04 / 19 51
   to
21 / 04 / 20 26

     75 years!Text:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Missing clues: the clues for the three killer cages and six little killer arrows are missing from the grid! Each can be filled in using one of the two-digit numbers to the left of the puzzle (the digit 2 by one of the question marks indicates ‘squared’). Each should be used once.

Red letters: colour nine cells in the grid red. No two red cells can appear in the same column, row, or three-by-three box; nor can they contain the same digit.

A digit in a red cell is about to celebrate its birthday; therefore, its value is one higher than the digit. (The value of a non-red cell is equal to its digit.)

All the following clues apply to values, not digits (so be careful of your assumptions!):

Killer cages: the sum of values in the cage equals the cage’s clue.

Little killer arrows: the sum of values along the indicated diagonal equals the arrow’s clue.

Arrows: the value of the circled cell equals the sum of the values along its arrow.

Circles: A circled cell has a value of at least seven (this does not apply to the circle of an arrow clue).

I think about this passage every so often. Partly for the usual reasons seeing past predictions of the present is interesting, but partly for the phrasing. The sentiment is "what if: video games?" but for someone who's never conceived of the concept before.
Photo of printed text: "Gary Gygax, the inventor of Dungeons & Dragons, imagines a computer dungeon in which the rooms and corridors appear on your home TV screen. As you move down the passages, you see them loom up before you and as you open the door you see it swing open and the monster jump out onto your screen. All this, of course, is still in somebody's imagination. Computer games have plenty of new worlds to conquer."

Look at this lovely portrait someone painted of me as my LARP character!
A watercolour picture of me sitting in a chair. I'm wearing a dark blue tunic with feathers on my shoulders, and my hair is in long plaited pigtails with various beads and gems woven into them.

Here's the original form.
The 'midwit' meme. A graph shows an IQ bell curve, with three characters spread along it. The 'low IQ' character says "Mountains are just mountains". The median IQ character says "Nooo! Mountains are not just mountains!" The high IQ character says "Mountains are just mountains".

I love this photo of me so much. Seeing it gave me the feeling, far stronger than ever before, that I could see 'her' in there. And this is after a very short time and relatively few steps taken to change my appearance. I still have lots more I can do!
Me, a trans woman, in a black and white stripy dress, a green necklace, and purple-framed glasses. My hair is flowing forwards over my shoulders. I'm looking down at a small turquoise parrot sitting on my left shoulder. She matches my necklace.

It's a picture of someone breaking a window with a hammer. The uncropped version makes this slightly clearer. They're advocating property damage, not personal violence.

Another great one by her on the topic of 'write what you know'.
As for “Write what you know,” I was regularly told this as a beginner. I think it’s a very good rule and have always obeyed it. I write about imaginary countries, alien societies on other planets, dragons, wizards, the Napa Valley in 22002. I know these things. I know them better than anybody else possibly could, so it’s my duty to testify about them. I got my knowledge of them, as I got whatever knowledge I have of the hearts and minds of human beings, through imagination working on observation. Like any other novelist. All this rule needs is a good definition of “know.”

Ok, St. Boltoph's in Boston, so you've got a Lego model of yourself, that's kind of cool. But does the model have- YES IT DOES, OF COURSE IT DOES, IT HAS AN EVEN TINIER MODEL INSIDE IT
A view of the inside of a medieval church. In the foreground is a lego model of the same church on a table.A view inside the model from the previous picture, looking down through the roof to see rows of pews. In the far corner a tiny model of the model itself, comprising perhaps three bricks, is visible.

My phone does that thing where it occasionally goes "hey look at this photo you took X years ago". Recently it changed the text of the notifications though so I got this, which makes it look like Gnocchi is excitedly asking me to look at his bowl of seeds.

Richard Burton as Dr. Dysart at the end of Equus. The top part of his face is shown in extreme closeup, lit starkly from one side so all we can see is one eye, part of his nose, and the deep shadow across the other side of his face. He stares directly into the camera, haunted by the realisations of his closing monologue: that as a psychiatrist he can destroy passion but not create it; that he, like his patient Alan, now "stands in the dark with a blade in his hand, striking at heads".

Panel 2: His mother runs in screaming "Calvin! What are you DOING to the coffee table?!?"
Panel 3: Calvin stares in blank confusion at the table
Panel 4: His mother facepalms as Calvin replies "Is this some sort of trick question or what?"

How would you cut this shape out of wood with only a drill and handsaws? It looks like I probably drilled holes at the inner corners but I'm not sure how I cut the line between them.
My hand holding a single piece of plywood that's shaped sort of like a letter C made out of three straight lines at ~135 degrees angles, so that cutting it would require cutting two concave corners
