Still going to lots of operas. Always manage to find some when visiting grandchildren in Australia and Norway. Still angry about Brexit.

The only sort of internal investigation I’d like to see Fartage part of is the one he will undergo when admitted to prison

In Sydney ( where we go to see our grandchildren) we went to a concert performance of Die Walkure two years ago. It was a lockout from the start. Same as at Bayreuth. We hope that it will be the same this year for Gotterdammerung!

I agree with you. We have this problem here in the UK too. However quietly latecomers enter the auditorium it’s still a disruption. We heard Paul Appleby singing in Britten’s War Requiem on 26 September and although the concert began a few minutes late, we had nearly 90 uninterrupted minutes.

The Cremona point history walk sounds fun - and for us oldies, perhaps not too long? We visit Sydney nearly every year to see daughter and grandchildren. Over the past few years we have completed the Bondi to Manly walk so we must have passed parts of the walk you mention.

Wondered about the relay here in the UK. Maybe shan’t bother as we heard all 3 of the main singers when they did a concert performance of Macbeth under Pappano in Copenhagen in May.

Opera is perceived as elitist and expensive to attend. Neither is really true, but all opera houses need to attract younger audiences. This seems an excellent way to introduce everyone to opera, especially when many of us won’t travel to the US while Trump is president.

I am a massive fan of opera, but until Trump goes, I won’t set foot in the US.

Sometimes the gasp is when the director has changed the ending as in the recent production of I Puritani at the Royal Opera in London! But seriously, what a great initiative!

The problem of course is not the press. It is that Donald Trump should have been impeached and permanently banned from the White House after January 6.

The current situation for Opera singers is tragic; you all bring us so much joy. I can almost state that life without opera wouldn’t be worth living …. but then I think of my 8 grandchildren around the world!

Like you, I am baffled. It seems to me that BBC ‘news ‘ programmes are very right wing and biased towards the Tories and Reform. The Proms are their high point, IMO.

This tweet took me back 50 years to when my husband worked in the Mater (Public) Hospital in Brisbane and I taught in a State High School in an outer suburb - two of the happiest years of our lives. One way flights paid by the QLD government.

The BBC has received criticism for their constant coverage of a minority right-wing Party in the UK. Their response, today, is to flood the news pages with multiple features. Labour have 403 MPs, the LibDems have 71 MPs, Reform have 8 MPs. This coverage is insane.
