Professor, Climate Science |TEDx speaker | Co-host Totally Cooke...

To put it as bluntly as I can, this is serious shit.

If we don't have an Australian climate model, we are shooting ourselves in the foot when it comes to adapting to climate change.

It's like accessing the internet on a dial up modem - we will be using old technology, and I can assure you, we WILL be flying blind.
Looking 1000 years into the future in a post net zero world? We have the ACCESS climate model to thank for that.

Understanding our future weather to harness renewable energy? We will need the ACCESS climate model for that.

Determining the survivability of Australian people and our native wildlife during future heatwaves? We MUST have the ACCESS climate model for that.

The future is literally in our hands.

Let's do better.

Yeah......this ain't a great forecast. Word on the street it will rival the heatwaves of 2009 and 1939. Some inland parts of Australia will get into the high 40s. The last i checked, some models were Predicting low 50s in some inland places. Im really nervous about this one. #heatwave #Australia

It's 28 degrees at 8.30am in #Canberra. My girls are making the most of outside time while they can. A north-westerly is getting stronger -not good for fire weather. Fingers crossed we see this thru unscathed. Thinking of everyone affected by the #Victorianfires.

Current conditions in #Canberra, sun set roughly and hour ago We are 600m above sea level - would be roughly 6deg hotter if we had no elevation.

View from my front yard in #CANBERRA this afternoon. The fire is 300km away, in Victoria. Much of Australia is currently in a heatwave, in some places the hottest temps for >15 years. Cool change forcasted in south-east from tomorrow onwards, but this is a recipe for disaster for firefighting

Gorgeous (but unseasonal and a bit concerning) weather in Canberra - high 20's for days on end. This should be a dream for generating home solar, but due to the grid not coping with so much of it, our system shuts down for hours on end. Infuriating to see so much clean energy literally go to waste.

remember this going into the election - Dutton peddles bullshit about what's possible with renewable energy. The REAL issue is that there's more solar in many suburbs than what the grid can handle, so many home units have to shut down, wasting a shitload. We lose up to 30KWh/day because of this.
