Abbeyhill at the end of colony of artists today
Maryhill in Abbeyhill today. It’s a mackerel sky, with a dark street - bunting is stretched across the road and lower left hand side is a sign with the colony of artists logo, the sun is low.

Musselburgh tonight. Alt text for description!
It is sunset over Fisherrow beach. High tide, or so. The beach is a dark curve over the bottom third of the image; the sea beyond it is grey but reflecting nada of light. There is a large grey crowd shaped like a crescent taking up the width of of the pjoto, blue sky above it and fire coloured sunset above the dark land below it. And sticking up on the right hand side of the horizon are the towers that will be the bases of the windmills at the Inchcape field.

Mind you. Here I am, listening to music like that will impress my grandkids… “what did you do while the world ended, granny?” “Um- I listened to Macklemore. And I wrote some firm emails to my MP, and bought a bit less from Amazon. I’ll have you know that’s more than most. Eat your cockroach stew.”

I swear half the new music I discover right now is when they take a political stand. I’d never listened to Macklemore in my whole life before the Ed Sheeran thing and now he’s on heavy rotation. I mean- middle aged white housewives probably isn’t anyone’s core market, but hey.

My feed is full of editorials written by normally competent feminist women laughing that their uni age sons cannot work washing machines. Madam, who raised this man? You? And this whole time you were lecturing us about equality you never said “here is the on button. Press it. Good lad”?

The forces of the resistance appear to be lifeboat volunteers, librarians, and Quaker retirees. It’s a horrible reality we live in, but if we survive, it’s going to make the sort of film the Brits used to excel at.

I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence. He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to

Every so often I remember that in 1989, my grandmother was still actively boycotting blackshirts- “Why do we never go to that shop?” “Dreadful man, dear. I couldn’t look myself in the mirror if we went there. Before the war- well. Leopards don’t change their spots.”

I spent too long front line NHS. Lovely memorial, guys. Glad you are apologising to the Edinburgh 7. WHY ARE THESE WOMEN WEARING LOOSE HAIR? Why? Why would they have their hair loose in a lab, then or now? It’s too distracting. I’m imagining the infection control nurse’s face.
An explanation board about the Edinburgh 7, 7 women who studied medicine at Edinburgh in the 19th century and whose attendance sparked riots, and they were never granted their degrees. You can’t read the text, which is white on a purple ground. The bit that is upsetting me is a modern artwork on the signe. It depicts 7 very modern young women attending an anatomy lecture. There’s a dissected corpse and 5 of them have loose hair. Loose hair! I ask you! They’re very pretty but why is their hair loose?

I suspect I would get on with Isabella Beeton. She just spent several pages talking about the history of kitchen implements and went on to say “buy the expensive pretty ones, you’ll take better care of them so that’s basically saving money.”
The front cover of Mrs Beeton’s book of household management. It’s the Oxford world classics edition, beige ground, white text in red blocking. And the image is a row of very shiny pans in a dresser.

The whole Tate thing reminds me of being a barmaid, and working out who was actually - ahem- a bit of a lad. Where I worked, most landlords had a story about the Krays. Some were nonsense- “you’d have been about 12 mate.” Some were - unverified, shall we say, but credible.

Today I have mostly been protesting for better leave and flexible working rights for dads. Ways Holyrood is better than Westminster? You’re allowed in to use the loo, as long as you leave the sign outside.
It is I, a red headed middle aged woman in a paisley jacket. I am holding a large yellow sign that reads “two weeks is not enough.” Behind me is the front facade of holyrood parliament, the home of the devolved Scottish government. Unlike Westminster, they’ll let you in To use the loo if you leave your sign outside.

I love this hill. This is Witch Craig in West Lothian. It’s a friendly little hour up and down, total. And from the top you can see the entire width of Scotland. It must have the best view to effort ratio of any hill I have ever climbed.
The witchcraig wall at the top of witch Craig. You can see some uprights of wood which form part of a bench, and the bench itself, sheltering behind a wall. The wall contains stone samples from about twenty geological areas of Scotland. Centre right, the board that explains all this to your , because what is a hill without educational explanation boards? And just beyond the wall is the entire central belt of Scotland This particular view is lurking under a threatening sky, although actually the weather is about to improve. You are looking more or less toward Stirling from here. But the view goes from Edinburgh to Aran.

Could we get Count Binface to stand in Clacton and then all the other parties, every single one of them, to actively campaign for Count Binface? I think that would fulfil both “we are not taking this childishness as legit politics” AND “you want anti establishment? Here it actually is.”

Also posting this lovely photo of me and The Bloke at Alanis Morisette yesterday. First thought was “god I look middle aged” then I remembered I *am* and that’s fine. With thanks to SAMH for the shades.
Me and my husband at a gig. I am a middle aged Red Headed woman whose daughter lines are shown up very nicely by the blue sunglasses that I got for a donation at the SAMH stand. I am wearing a black t-shirt- it’s one of IDLES hard rock for pussies shirts. Husband is a greying middle aged white bloke a little taller than me and he is wearing a blue and yellow Hawaiian style shirt. He’s wearing his regular glasses. We’re both smiling

The stage at the Glasgow Sessions during Alanis Morisette gig yesterday .- massive festival stage, white spot lights, stormy sky. The stage is pink lit and the screens are showing guitarist, who is probably roughly middle aged. There are many people in front of me.
