If Congress and our state legislators continue down this path, it will force children & adults with disabilities who need care into costly, mostly privately owned, & nontransparent institutions & nursing homes, instead of allowing them to continue being cared for by the family members who love them.

A big part of what we are seeing right now stems from a piece of legislation known as the 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.' This particular bill is unfortunate and introduced some massive reductions to Medicaid funding. Federal aid will be cut by 1 trillion dollars.

If you or a person you know lives in poverty, has a disability, or is elderly and needs long term care, this is an important time to learn more about Medicaid and the impending cuts. Be/come civically engaged. Know that half of all Medicaid recipients are children.

The family caregiver ban was removed from the bill. Our elected legislators had no choice but to hear our voices. We will continue to show up for our disability community and loved ones. It is expected that the bill will next pass the Senate and be sent to the Governor for signature.

Update on the recent concerning Ohio Medicaid legislation (HB 795): HB 795 was moved from the Medicaid Committee to the Finance Committee, It is now SB 315. Amendments were made & it passed out of the Ohio House Finance Committee this afternoon before passing the full Ohio House of Representatives.

Update: the harmful family caregiver ban has been removed from the Medicaid bill. Disability and caregiver community voices were heard in Ohio.
