It's not all gloom and doom. A Eutelsat spokesperson said, in 2025: “We have deployed and continue to operate hundreds of terminals across Ukraine and the Black Sea.” The report also noted that Kyivstar had been testing OneWeb with Ukraine’s military. www.reuters.com/technology/s...

It’s come to the point that I’m hoping BYD will produce these in their European factories too, so we can get cheap EV here. On some points, going European is crucial (defence, tech, critical infrastructure and resources), but for cars European car manufacturers underperform and I want better.

Merkel’s policy was based on the idea that trade would bring prosperity and peace. Until right before the invasion, Europe thought it wouldn’t happen bc Putin had too much to lose. Putin just doesn’t think that way.

On one hand I agree that how petty and infantile he is, on the other it’d assume that they don’t realise the rest of the world sees this and will do what they can to get away from the US. They’re undercutting their own power. That can’t be their goal, can it.

Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov confirms Elon Musk's Space X crippled Ukrainian capabilities last night. In other words, the US deliberately sabotaged European defence operations mid-mission. Every country in the world should move away from buying American hardware ASAP.
"I can confirm that tonight SpaceX has implemented a speed limit on Starlink terminals while in motion.

The limit currently applies to the StarShield “military package” and is set at 100 mph.

Our defense forces were not given notice of this limit, and this has resulted in the disruption of a number of missions.

It is clear that this action cannot be a coincidence and is related to the current political situation."

I’d rather say it’s a problem of a society that no longer balances citizens interests with corporate and political interests. The more out of balance, the more extreme ideologies and swings across the spectrum you’re going to get.

That risks turning the financial system into a weapon of war. Non-western countries could also want to switch to non-Western clearing houses. That would costs billions in revenue and make it impossible to track transactions, e.g. if sanctions on Russia are respected, or who funds terrorism.

Yes. The legal ground is disputed bc you can’t seize state assets retroactively. So you’d have to prove that the assets are the proceeds of crime and if you can, you only seize the amount related to the crime. We’d break international law if we seize another state’s property for political reasons.

This could cost Europe 100s of billions more in missed financial trade. What we are doing, is skimming off the returns the frozen assets are making and sending that + the taxes paid on it to Ukraine as aid.

Do you think EU countries would help Belgium pay 360 billion in legal settlements if we don’t pay Russia’s 180 billion back? yes, Russia threatened us. Then there’s the financial market: what effect will it have if the world concludes that sending money through Europe is a political risk?
200 2
Sara | Europe Tomorrow @sara-rey.eurosky.social · 07/10/2026
None of the countries having Russian assets were willing to release them. There’s no precedent and no legal ground. A Russian oligarch has a court case in Luxembourg where he demands 16 billion bc of 8 billion in frozen assets. That‘s double.
