Let’s halt crediting Christianity! If Stoicism or Humanist philosophy had shaped Western civilization instead of Christianity, we’d likely see a more equal, rational, and compassionate world—less dogma, more curiosity, earlier gender equality, and a stronger sense of shared responsibility!

The world suffers more from
unquestioned beliefs than from unanswered questions.

i feel like we all need another timeline cleanser

A large galaxy is at center, and a significantly smaller galaxy is to its left. The large galaxy is mostly face-on, but the top appears slightly tilted away. It has several rings. Its circular core is bright white at the very center, but light yellow overall. Going outward, there are gaps between the rings. The core is surrounded by two slightly lighter yellow rings, which also appear to be overlapping. The next ring is slightly more transparent and yellow. The two or three rings that are farther out are bluer, sometimes with blue clumps. The widest ring is also blue, but also the most transparent. At 9 o’clock is a small dwarf galaxy. It is about the same size as the yellow core of the Bullseye. The dwarf galaxy is blue, with many dots. It looks like the edge of the Bullseye might touch the dwarf galaxy. Both galaxies are set on the black background of space, which is dotted with a range of galaxies in different shapes, colors, and sizes, along with one foreground star at left.

A concentration of bright blue stars occupies the bottom right corner of the image. At bottom center within them is a small blue bubble. The stars and bubble are part of a diffuse dwarf galaxy that extends beyond the image border. Background galaxies are scattered across the image, with some particularly prominent spirals located at upper left and upper right. The background of space is black.

This is a highly detailed composite image of a star-forming region of space known as 30 Doradus, shaped like a bouquet, or a maple leaf.

X-ray wind and gas takes the shape of a massive purple and pink bouquet with an extended central flower, or perhaps a leaf from a maple tree. The hazy, mottled shape occupies much of the image, positioned just to our left of center, tilted slightly to our left. Inside the purple and pink gas and wind cloud are red and orange veins, and pockets of bright white light. The red and orange veins represent energy ejected by supernovas, carried on cosmically strong winds. The pockets of white light represent clusters of young stars. One cluster at the heart of 30 Doradus houses the most massive stars astronomers have ever found.

The hazy purple and pink bouquet is surrounded by glowing dots of green, white, orange, and red. A second mottled purple cloud shape, which resembles a ring of smoke, sits in our lower righthand corner.

$This is a composite image of star cluster NGC 602, in vibrant and festive colors. The shape of the star cluster strongly resembles a holiday wreath. The cluster includes a giant dust cloud ring, shown in greens, yellows, blues, and oranges. The green hues and feathery edges of the ring cloud create the appearance of a wreath made of evergreen boughs. Hints of red representing X-rays provide shading, highlighting layers within the wreath-like ring cloud. The image is aglow with specks and dots of colorful, festive light, in blues, golds, whites, oranges, and reds. These lights represent stars within the cluster. Some of the lights gleam with diffraction spikes, while others emit a warm, diffuse glow. Upon closer inspection, many of the glowing specks have spiraling arms, indicating that they are, in fact, distant galaxies.$

The stars in NGC 602 have fewer heavier elements compared to the Sun and most of the rest of the galaxy. Instead, the conditions within NGC 602 mimic those for stars found billions of years ago when the universe was much younger. chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2024/n... 🔭 🧪

This stunning composite image from the James Webb and Chandra telescopes reveals the intricate details of NGC 602, a young star cluster nestled within the Small Magellanic Cloud. Webb's infrared observations pierce through dust to reveal nascent stars and intricate dust structures, while Chandra's X-ray data highlights the hot gas sculpted by powerful stellar winds and supernova explosions from the cluster's massive stars. The resulting image showcases a vibrant tapestry of colors, with swirling patterns of red, green, and blue illuminating the interplay between star formation and the surrounding interstellar medium, offering valuable insights into the evolution of star clusters and their impact on galactic environments.

It's not even about older people having more wealth to protect; I'm making more than ever before and I still want to obliterate capitalism. You get more conservative and right wing as you get older if you fail to grow as you age. It just means you've been wasting your time on this planet and allowing yourself to become intellectually lazy and morally stagnant.

thinking about how beautiful this picture is

A star cluster within a nebula. The center of the image contains arcs of orange and pink gas that form a boat-like shape. One end of these arcs points to the top right of the image, while the other end points toward the bottom left. Another plume of orange and pink gas expands from the center to the top left of the image. To the right of this plume is a large cluster of white stars. There are more of these white stars and galaxies of different sizes spread throughout the image.

$Several bright-white, bluish, and orange stars shine with diffraction spikes, interspersed throughout dark dust. Particularly dark regions of gas and dust are seen near the lower left.$

The Crab Nebula. An oval with complex structure extends from lower left to upper right against a black background. On the oval’s exterior lie curtains of glowing yellow and green fluffy material. Its interior shell shows large-scale loops of mottled filaments of yellow-white and green, studded with clumps and knots. Translucent thin ribbons of smoky blue lie within the remnant’s interior, brightest toward its center. The blue material follows different directions throughout, including sometimes sharply curving away from certain regions within the remnant. A faint, wispy ring of blue material encircles the very center of the nebula. Around and within the supernova remnant are many points of blue, green, purple, and white light.

A spiral galaxy seen nearly face-on. The disk holds many tightly wound spiral arms. They contain small strands of reddish dust, near the center. On the left side, the disk features glowing patches of star formation. The whole right side, and part of the center, is obscured by a large cloud of dark gas which crosses the image.

$Hundreds of stars and galaxies in varying shapes, sizes and colors on a black background. Two of the largest, most prominent stars can be found in the top left quadrant and near the bottom right edge, respectively. They are tinged with blue and have an eight-point diffraction spike pattern. Near the center of this image is the ZS7 system, made up of a merger between two galaxies and their black holes. The ZS7 system is not easily seen by the naked eye in this image, as it looks like very small red dots.$

Image of a large galaxy on the right, with two smaller companion galaxies to the left. The large galaxy is ring-shaped, with an oval outer ring, and a small, off-center oval inner ring. The rings and space between are lit with blue plumes and dots. The companion galaxies to the left, one above the other, are much smaller than the main galaxy, and about the same size as each other. The galaxy above has similar coloring and many of the same features as the large ring galaxy, but more of a disturbed s-shape, with no distinct rings. The galaxy below is brighter with a whiter tinge. It has a diffuse spiral shape with a white core similar to that of the ring galaxy, but with a smoother texture. The background is full of more distant, orange-red colored galaxies of various shapes and sizes.

A close-up shot of a spiral galaxy. A bright core is seen edge-on, with spiral arms surrounding it. These arms are full of dark brown dust and hazy blue star formation.

Thousands of distant stars crowd the view against black space. A rosy, bloomlike tendril of red nebulosity shines near the center-top.

A nebula made up of cloudy gas and dust in the form of soft and wispy clouds and, in the center, thin and highly detailed layers pressed close together. Large, bright stars surrounded by six long points of light are dotted over the image, as well as some small, point-like stars embedded in the clouds. The clouds are lit up in blue close to the stars; orange colors show clouds that glow in infrared light.

The stars are destroying the pillars. More specifically, some of the newly formed stars in the image center are emitting light so energetic that it is evaporating the gas and dust in the surrounding pillars. Simultaneously, the pillars themselves are still trying to form new stars.
