I remember meeting Manmohan Singh in 1998. Gentle, analytically incisive, politically evasive. “What do economists in Cambridge think about the Asian financial crisis?” he inquired when I asked about high Congress politics. A remarkable life of a great Nehruvian who changed India in decisive ways.
