🚨NEW: Declarations filed in the lawsuit against the rushed attempt to deport 600 Guatemalan children reveals the chaotic way the Trump admin carried out the operation. Children were taken out of bed after midnight to be rushed onto planes. One girl "was so scared she vomited."
7. At all of the shelters visited in the middle of the night, ProBAR staff witnessed children who had been pulled out of their beds. They were confused and scared. At Hands of Healing Los Fresnos, one young girl was extremely distraught, crying and repeatedly saying that she could not go back to Guatemala. At New Hope McAllen, one young girl was so scared that she vomited and asked to speak with a clinician. At Urban Strategies Alamo, one young teenager was scared that he might end up murdered like one of his family members. At Compass Connection in Harlingen, an attorney was able to meet with only one child. None of these children’s parents in their home country had requested their return. ProBAR’s client and named Plaintiff ARMD was at Compass Connection, but he was transported to a plane without notifying me as his attorney of record.

Palestinian casualties are still overwhelming the very few hospitals left in Gaza, with images showing kids maimed and patients on the floors of which staff later clean the blood off. WHO says no fuel's entered for more than 100 days, which means all health care could come to a halt any day now.

It should also be noted that the Palestinian doctors working 24, 48-hour shifts are experiencing the same man-made famine as their patients. Hospital staff are exhausted trying to save as many lives as possible and maintain morale while only having access to just a bit of rice to eat.

The stress and malnourishment that thousands of pregnant Palestinian women face are often leading to premature births, with many of the babies struggling with sepsis, respiratory issues and congenital abnormalities. And with no nutrition, docs say those babies can't fight off infections.

Doctors stress that malnutrition in kids 3 and under are causing severe cognitive damage. Children can become nonverbal, struggle with information processing, experience memory loss, etc. -- and that's in addition to the PTSD symptoms they already suffer from due to bombs and displacement.

I heard from over a dozen health care workers who are either currently in Gaza or had volunteered there. Some docs recalled malnourished pediatric patients never recovering from procedures because their immune system's shot. Some have micronutrient disorders like scurvy and night blindness.

Schiff says he plans to vote no on the JRDs, because blocking the sale of 20,000-pound bombs to Israel "do not get us closer to peace." He mentioned Palestinians protesting Hamas, but not the Israelis protesting Netanyahu to stop bombing Gaza. And again, Gaza has not received *any* aid for a month.

Meanwhile, Israel has killed more than 1,000 people in Gaza since breaking the ceasefire agreement, and announced plans to expand its occupation to larger areas of the strip. On top of that, it's been a month since Israel allowed any aid to enter the territory. Palestinians are tired and starving.

Sanjana Karanth @sanjanakaranth.huffpost.com · 03/04/2025
Keep in mind that the Trump admin essentially fast-tracked these weapons packages by formally notifying Congress without first going through the oversight process via House Foreign Affairs and Senate Foreign Relations committees. (House progressives have introduced similar resolutions to Bernie's)

The Senate is voting today on whether to block $8.8 billion in weapons sales to Israel, including more than 35,000 one-ton bombs. The effort's being led by @sanders.senate.gov. This could serve as an important test for Dems, given their voters increasingly support ending the weapons transfers.
