A different valley in Nepal, but I recall that the Kali Gandaki gorge is one of the deepest/steepest. The first pic shows Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Marpha village (2,566 m) below it. The second, the ice locked up in the adjacent Dhaulagiri Icefall, as seen in 1983.

In the late '80s #Bologna became my adopted second home. The clock above the railway station shows the time of 10.25, the moment a bomb detonated and killed 85 people, injuring at least 200. The clock remains a symbol and a reminder of that day.

The Goldfinch of Carel Fabritius. It is a favourite, but it evokes sense of loss that is difficult to quantify. The loss of freedom, ofc, but also the loss of life and of treasures, so suddenly wiped out. I've seen the original twice and have a copy on the wall.

The King. I met a Eurasian eagle-owl, a Grand-duc d'Europe, in the 1970s that had been shot but then rescued and cared for. It stood tall and proud in its cage as it waited to be fed. That Grand-duc was the general inspiration behind all the abstract bird sculpture I made over the years. #Chess
