And for those wondering what "Batman's Aff His Nut" sounds like in a proper Glaswegian accent, here's Robert Florence, who penned it, reciting it over a Batman teaser...

It's not often you get public information posters that become design classics, and the rabies posters of the 1970s are suitable for framing. As far as I know, no other infection was given an official, none-more-metal, logo. But the rabies logo rocks!

Since the English national identity has to somehow reconcile multiple waves of immigration (invasions?) with a "specially chosen by god" complex, then why not choose a classic bully tactic? "I'm not weird, that other guy is, and his hair is dumb and he farts on cakes! Rule Britannia, dweebs!"

Oh, as long as it's an improvised, heat of the moment, 'I thought they were a threat, y'r honor' type thing, the US is top tier at death penalties. But if it requires, y'know, consistency, set procedure, or adherence to even the flimsiest of laws or ethical frameworks? Then, not so much.

Castlevania wasn't bad - pretty good evocation of the game's tone with a little dark humor and a few thoughtful characters to flesh out the story.

Goddamnit, just because people said the Winter Soldier was an entertaining movie, that doesn't mean people wanted a secret government plot to track every person driving in every goddamn city in America.

Childhood encounters with dynamite? No. But one friend had a gun-enthusiast dad who reloaded his own ammo. Discovering that gunpowder didn't come in big ol' wooden barrels was kind of a letdown, but the little vitamin-sized bottles were way easier to take out for forest-based hijinks.
A still from the 1953 cartoon 'Bunker Hill Bunny', showing Bugs Bunny sitting on a large wooden barrel labeled "GUN POWDER". We is nibbling a carrot with typical nonchalance, despite the lit fuse trailing from the barrel.

" She likes cloth", that's a good band name."

I wonder if there is some difference in how folks draw lines between "work roles" and "jobs in industry". The manager who uses kanban to plan and assign tasks, the person actually taking the ticket to execute the action, and the director setting annual budgets are all "in the service industry"...

They may not have the same "crystal clear freeze frame" feeling, but if you want dynamic illustrations of thrown punches it'd be hard to find a larger collection of good examples than George Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo. (There's over 140 volumes! It's been running since 1989!)
Illustration of a straight right punch in a boxing match from the manga series Hajime no Ippo, by George Morikawa. The scene is from slightly below eye level, emphasizing the height of the opponent, whose body is twisted backwards, arms falling awkwardly, and his neck torqued almost completely away from the force of the punch. Illustration of a boxing match from the manga series Hajime no Ippo, by George Morikawa. This overhead scene shows the immediate aftermath of an unusual left uppercut called a "smash". The person being punched has fallen heavily against the ropes, their head rocked backwards as far as their neck can bend. Illustration of a straight right punch to the body in a sparring match from the manga series Hajime no Ippo, by George Morikawa. This scene is from a high, overhead perspective, showing how the body punch has completely stopped the protagonist's forward movement, his feet limply in the air and his torso bulging backwards from the blow. Illustration of a left uppercut in a boxing match from the manga series Hajime no Ippo, by George Morikawa. The protagonist is facing away from the viewer in this scene illustrated from slightly above eye-level. The placement of their legs and feet show just how close they are, and how intense the fight must be. The antagonist's head is obscured in a cloud of spattered ink and shadow tones, as if yhe motion was too fast for a camera to capture clearly. The streak of the punch has snapped his head backwards, fully exposing his throat.

If I had 5¢ for each company I've worked at that said "Yes, we must clearly document processes to prevent knowledge loss" and "No, clearly defining tasks is too complex, and we're too busy to spend time on that anyway" I'd have 25¢. Which isn't much, but that's still 100% of places I've worked.

History minded folks might recall the 1970s Ford Pinto, a car known to be a serious fire risk but released anyway - changing the design would have increased the budget and delayed the car's release. *Only* 27 deaths were directly attributed to that design flaw. "It was a business decision."
Text from a Motor Trend article describing the Ford Pinto, which reads:

Ford was aware of the Pinto’s propensity to catch fire. Early crash tests, performed in anticipation of a proposed safety standard regarding rear-end collisions and fuel leakage, showed the Pinto was prone to fuel leakage and fire in low-speed, rear-end impacts. Ford considered several fixes, including a shield behind the axle and a rubberized bladder for the fuel tank, but rejected these as they would have added cost and put the program behind schedule.

Full text available from
https://www.motortrend.com/features/ford-pintoA captioned screenshot from the crash test footage showing a 1971 Chevrolet Impala rear-ending a 1972 Ford Pinto. There is burning fuel everywhere.

It's a marker of class/culture for the judgment of the interviewer. Within the office they may well have multiple coffee/tea breaks at throughout the day. But a person who carries a product from outside is showing a marker of class that doesn't defer to the in-office people by hiding itself...

Never mind whose farms got bulldozed to make way for the studios or factories or tract housing. And never mind whose homelands those were before they got annexed (twice over!) to make that 'farmland' US-controlled. ... Manifest destiny was a helluva drug (and it's still present in US thinking).

Shed an old identity and start a new life in the west. Maybe as a rancher or a shopkeeper or selling patent medicine, or cowboy or lumberjack. (But on whose land?) And by the mid-20th c., California/Hollywood was the next iteration: Get discovered by an agent! Sell a script! Be a star!

Interesting how US ideas of "rebirth" play out in different places/eras. ~1830-1970 also saw a myth of going west for reinvention. Failed in Boston? Try again in Kansas. Ohio no good? Go to Wyoming. Bankrupt in Chicago? Try Colorado. (And never mind who gets squeezed to make that space for you.)

Back when I had a desktop setup, the old Kensington Trackball worked reasonably well for somewhat-larger mitts - I could stack a bunch of wrist rests or whatnot to get my fingers in the right place, and then keep the trackball in place relative to that. You ever try something like that?
