Photojournalist Dickey Chapelle was the 1st American female war correspondent to die on the front lines, 1965. Marines called her "tough as nails." She marched 100s of miles thru jungle terrain, ate C-rations & slept in the mud alongside troops on 4 continents. #WorldPhotographyDay #Photography 🧵

A striking black-and-white historical photograph of trailblazing war correspondent Dickey Chapelle (1919–1965), the first American female reporter killed in action. She is crouched in a dynamic low-angle pose on a sandy beach, peering intently into the distance with a vigilant, professional expression. Defying early-mid 20th-century gender roles, she wears her signature field uniform: military fatigues, a utility cap, small pearl earrings, and prominent, thick-rimmed harlequin (cat-eye) glasses. Her hands securely grip a vintage rangefinder camera equipped with an specialized wide-angle lens attachment. Looming prominently in the out-of-focus background is a massive military combat tank with numbers stenciled on its turret, contextualizing the high-stakes deployment. The sharp, triangular composition tightly focuses on Chapelle's intense determination, framing her directly against the bleak backdrop of an active military exercise. The overall mood is gritty, courageous, and historic, encapsulating the unwavering focus of a pioneering photojournalist documenting the front lines of global conflict.

Jacqueline Susann: one of the best-selling novelists in history & 1st to have 3 consecutive novels #1 on the NYT Best Seller list. Valley of the Dolls has sold >31MM copies, making it one of the best-selling works of fiction in history (rec'd largely negative reviews). Born #OTD in 1918. #BookSky

Side-by-side images of author Jacqueline Susann (1918–1974) on the left and the iconic, original 1966 dust jacket design of her history-making bestseller, Valley of the Dolls, on the right. Susann poses elegantly against a softly lit studio background. She turns her torso slightly to the left while looking directly at the camera with a confident, open-mouthed smile, exuding Hollywood glamour. Her dark, voluminous hair is styled in a perfectly coiffed mid-century updo with tight pin curls framing her face. She wears substantial, polished earrings and a light-colored, sleeveless, high-collared shirt. The collar is cinched at the neck by a delicate, sparkling choker necklace that fastens over a diamond-shaped fabric tab. The book cover to her right features a clean, off-white background dominated by the stark, bold black typography of the title, Valley of the Dolls. Below the title, smaller text credits the book as "A Novel by Jacqueline Susann." Scattered across the cover like confetti are small, multi-colored capsules and pills—the "dolls" referenced in the book—in shades of red, blue, and yellow. This striking design element explicitly hints at the novel’s dark themes of celebrity drug addiction. The overall composition captures the sharp contrast between Susann's polished public persona and the gritty, taboo show-business underbelly exposed in her culturally significant, record-breaking work.

You got to have money for them to take before you blame them for being broke. Jobs aren't paying, influencer popping who have no buisness having money like that. People have gone rouge for lack of better words. Remeber when times were simple? They aren't anymore.
