Have the pleasure of upgrading Messhof's gitlab server today (letsencrypt auto-renew stopped working). Apparently the upgrade process for gitlab is, _manually patching_ between TEN versions, in between each running SQL queries manually to make sure it's _actually_ finished. What a piece of shit

I think the future will have tons of godot forks and that's probably a good thing. It's basically the natural direction Unity users would have taken the engine in if not for its commercial constraints/problems

I rly think gdscript for prototyping/light scripting with C++ for heavy lifting is the ideal Godot workflow. I get C# as an ad for growth/popularity but the engine doesn't really benefit from it directly

hibernate is broken, trackpad is occasionally laggy, the keyboard will occasionally not work when coming out of sleep, and the keyboard can also wake it up during sleep which has made it cook itself in my bag a few times. also dropped over 10% battery health in only 7 months of ownership

just remembered this, one hack I've been doing to "fix" windows is this autounattend.xml generator that you place on a windows install drive. it's what IT people use to set up massive deployments etc. you can basically turn off all the annoying windows features with it! schneegans.de/windows/unat...

as a mainly code person it's honestly fine, tools availability for more art forward folks might have a few gaps? I think the most annoying thing for me is that the OS freaks out about unsigned software constantly and there's no real way to turn it off

i feel like this is actually a long-term net positive for small indies making highly bespoke work. people are already sick of the scale-chasing in big games that are made with conventional tools, which is by definition the best result that AI tools _could_ accomplish
