French bond contagion fears are rattling the euro
A sliding euro is the latest alarm bell for policymakers facing a surge in French borrowing costs that has started to spill over into the broader euro area.

I’ve hesitated over commenting on the Green Party’s anti-Zionism motion for fear of being called a genocidal monster. But the fear of antisemitism is a terrible reason for saying nothing. So Read this by @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social. It gets to the heart of it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

All the talk is about Man City circumventing football's financial fair play rules but this description suggests another word beginning with F. www.premierleague.com/en/news/4727...
The purpose of these schemes was found to have been to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules. The consequence of this, as the Commission found, was that the club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators. The Commission concluded that ‘by its conduct the club clearly intended to circumvent the PL Rules‘.

It's Q4 already?
The third quarter draws to a close, and investors have plenty to dig their teeth into. The spotlight in the coming week shines on US payrolls and US and euro zone inflation data, which will likely shape expectations for the path of interest rates on both sides of the Atlantic.

Have moved now, but I was very happy there. Helped me get on the property ladder and managed to sell the flat for a small profit. A lot of people complain about help to buy but I had a great experience with it

I bought a property using help to buy in 2018 with a 5-year fix. Had the double whammy in 2023 of having to repay the interest on the govt loan and rise in interest rates. Repayments more than doubled overnight

Are you the best geoguesser in London? Need a bit of help on an investigation. Looking to locate this photo of a cemetery or churchyard in London, probably in the north or east of the city. Victorian graves overlooked by low rise post-war flats. I’ve tried most of the places I can think of!

This is the essence of Grantham's hypothesis on the Big Tech firms and AI.
Jeremy Grantham

Yes. And if you look at the capex, you’ll see that 2023 is a piker compared to 2024, ’25, ’26. It’s just escalated. So it stayed strong enough to kind of shock the system and make it feel like it was unexpectedly strong with corporate profits from the Mag-7, unexpectedly strong again. And that’s a powerful influence on the market. And now the question is, how much of that is permanent? How much of their P/E move is justified? But I think most importantly, how long can they maintain their profit margins? I have a very strong feeling on that. History says that two things are going on here, but the first one is that the Mag-7 used to represent really strong monopolies in seven different areas. They each control their field, Microsoft, Apple, Google, and so on. And now they’re all bracing to be the top dog in the same field. This is utterly different. The way to do really well for a long time, make fat profits, is to be a price setter, which is to say, have a monopoly. They were enormously helped by the way in the Justice Department’s attitude, and the administration’s attitude, to monopolies. They weren’t interested. So they were not stepping in like Teddy Roosevelt to break up the great Standard Oil. So these were not just local monopolies, they were often grand, global monopolies. And very nice it was too. And now suddenly they’re all stripping for action and they’re going to all pile in the ring to gather like some event on President Trump’s lawn. And the seven firms are not your average firms, they are ultimately aggressive. We have actually learned to develop a very sharp-edged form of capitalism, not unlike the late 19th century, where Standard Oil and so on went for the throat, and bullied the railroads into increasing the freight rates on their competitors and so I mean. I mean, really dirty pork. And we’ve gotten pretty sharp, sharp-edged. And these guys are the winners. They go for the throat, and they’ve learned to be the winner who takes al…

Incredible to think that Bielsa's Leeds finished just 2 points behind Arteta's Arsenal in 2020/21 (and outscored them). One manager was then backed in the transfer market and given time. The other was given Dan James, Junior Firpo and Jack Harrison and sacked a few months later #lufc

In a scenario where Middle Eastern imports into Europe do not resume until August, Jefferies believes there is a material risk that Europe's jet fuel inventories could be effectively depleted by October. Yikes!
Jefferies chart showing Europe Jet-fuel Inventory Days Demand. Euro Jet Fuel Stocks - already at 5yr lows - run the risk of depletion in months without Middle East imports.

A gradual export resumption likely sees Jet Fuel inventory deplete further below its 5yr range
With no resumption, Jet Fuel inventory could be fully drawn down by October
