Blessed Be. Crystals and witches and everything in between. I saw a video from that bar, and a record shop. Devastating.

That’s true. My friend runs a shop there, thankfully on higher ground. Monmouth has such lovely independent shops and bars. Such a terrible shame…and then there’s the hikes in insurance to follow.

Just watching the videos now. Jeez, it’s terrible. You just know the damage that will be left behind once the water drops. Poor, poor folks.

Hope all folks are ok. Some terrible flooding scenes from around south Wales. Heartbreaking destruction again. Take care today.

Not been to London without getting straight on a tube for a while…but wow, doesn’t the bit around Paddington Station look fancy now. Even in the rain.

It’s my public service anniversary. 35 years ago today I walked into State House in Holborn…utterly bricking it. It’s been a hell of a journey! Civil Service, Local Gov and now NHS. It’s always been a privilege to work for our communities. Still is.

At a great event today about Mental Health. Open Access to mental health is a must. If you need help today, get it today. No referral. No waiting list. Not rocket science, but needs a whole system to pull together to deliver. But it’s so worth it. Some great evidence and lived experience examples.

Twixmas trip to The Midlands to visit the in laws for a couple of days. Neither of them like Christmas. “It’s a lot of fuss and nonsense”. Any suggestion we don’t go though…and we are the humbugs!

I used to wrap to White Christmas, but this year it’s been The Santa Claus 1 & 2 and I’ve still not finished. And I’ve got 2 working arms. Next year square gifts only. Trying to wrap a Squishmallow almost ended me.

The Tracey Thorn Christmas Album is special.
A sort of Christmas ring, covered in tinsel with other little bits of Christmas decorations inside it. There are some pointy star bits which spell out LIGHTS. It’s an album cover and looks very festive.

Been away for a few days with my in-laws for father-in-law’s 80th birthday. Bittersweet time. It’s good to know that he still loves life, but having some major health issues this year has properly hit him hard. Still good times, good wine and good memories still to be made.

In the interests of festive food I have taste tested these biscuits from Sainsbury. Black Forest Bourbon Twists can get in the bin 1/10 Gingerbread Custard Creams are passable, could be a grower 6/10
Two packets of biscuits. They have green and red stripes to look festive. Not terribly exciting packaging, but it might taste better than the Bourbon biscuits.

We shall remember them.
Welsh First World War memorial. A stone arch with a red dragon on top. It’s in a misty field and there are poppies and wreaths all around.

We were talking about it yesterday. Advice is ‘don’t use WhatsApp for this, use Teams’. Like anything else with shadow systems, it’s hard to know the extent of usage. The answer is to make systems as usable as WhatsApp, etc, but also safe and secure. Not sure that happens enough!

I’ve been helping an elderly, recently widowed, neighbour to sort his Ovo account. Was in wife’s name, needs to be in his. Finally sorted today. 5 months since she passed away. Utterly shocking customer support at such a terrible time.

And also makes sense. 80%+ of all healthcare happens in primary care. PC doesn’t get 80% of the funding. Or even close. PC has a purpose and it isn’t to take the strain from hospitals. Likewise social care isn’t there to do that either. The balance of investment is wrong.

Not exactly. Third time was not lucky. About 10 days in and still pretty rough. Onwards though! And I’m definitely going to be paying for a booster next year!

Sam Hall @samhallcymru.bsky.social · 12/10/2024
Agreed, consistent and persistent would be good. And it’s wider than primary care, add in social care, mental health, police, etc. People are weird, they don’t follow a designated route through health and care. Nor do they stay in the same place - forever.
