Automatic Noodle by @annaleen.bsky.social has warmed me right up ☺️ finished on a sunny Saturday morning with a cup of tea. A beautiful story of hope, determination and found family in a world that feels filled with unending adversary. I think I’ll go get some noodles today 🍜

🧪 Following @wangjianxiong.bsky.social’s paper in Nature Comms published last night! I have written an article with @aunz.theconversation.com. Understand why on earth we would use quails to study the human spine and why the quails glow! theconversation.com/fluorescent-...

Fluorescent quail embryos could help solve serious birth defects in humans
A fluorescent embryo allows scientists to watch living cells organise themselves in real time, revealing processes previously impossible to observe.

I'm SO excited to see this new paper from our lab's first PhD graduate @wangjianxiong.bsky.social. An outstanding student with a promising career ahead! A PCP-independent role for Prickle1 in junctional neural tube formation. 🧪🐣 Check it out: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

$350 million dollars every year that sits unused instead of supporting medical researchers who want nothing more than to find you answers. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

Up to $1.4 billion in medical research remains unused under government cap
Researchers say securing funding has become increasingly tough, with many left with no choice but to spend a disproportionate amount of time applying for grants.

We've enjoyed having Marise and Samara from the lab of @melaniedwhite.bsky.social here to image quail embryos on our MOSAIC system. We wish them safe travels home and happy data analyzing!

I’m so excited to share my latest article written for IMB!!! Inspired by the international women’s day theme of accelerating action, I reflect on the current state of scientific research for and by women. (Safe to say there is plenty of room for improvement) imb.uq.edu.au/article/2025...

Credit to The Australian for finding new ways to commit heinous chart crimes… if you’re going to insist on using a pie chart to visually show proportions, you can’t also scale the radius of each respective pie piece.
A chart in The Australian showing polling results for Australian political parties. It’s a pie chart, where the radius of each ‘piece’ has been scaled, making the area of each piece disproportionate.

As we head into the final days of the Australian election, I want to reshare pieces that I wrote, that I think reflect where the major parties are at on climate. My case for the Greens/Independents: www.tempestsandterawatts.com/p/why-all-au...

No matter where you live, you have a vote that matters on climate at this year's federal election.

Absolutely dead serious: D&D nerds are exactly who you want doing this kind of work. Last year, in more optimistic times, I even wrote a little guide for DMs who want to get involved in local politics: Roll for Climate Initiative: A Dungeon Master’s Guide to Running for Local Public Office
